Pictures at the Subway and Refreshing Swim at Bukhansan Park

On day five of our adventures in Korea, Adam wanted to once again go and hike around the mountains of Bukhansan Park – but this time focus on the OTHER side (West side) of them.  So we once again got on the subway and then took a bus ride to where we needed to go.
While at the subway though we found these fun picture cutouts with the Bukhansan mountains we’d hiked the day before, as well as some beautiful pictures other photographers had taken of the mountains.  So breathtaking!

We ended up once again needing to take several different buses to get to our destination, and then our bus driver actually ended up telling us the WRONG stop to get off of (which we didn’t figure out until later) but in the end the stop he did let us off on – had some cool things to see.  So we made the best of it and had a good time!  This is a man-made waterfall that was shut off at the moment.

Some interesting plants or vegetables (not sure which) being sold while we walked to our next bus stop.

It was getting to be around lunch time right around when the bus dropped us off, so we decided to go and grab some lunch at a street vendors shop nearby.  While we waited the kids played with their 4 different dogs.  Some were nice, and others…not so much.  This puppy was the favorite of all the kids.  So cute and friendly!

For lunch Adam ordered us some kamjajun – which is basically a pancake made out of potatoes, carrots, onions, and other vegetables and then some sushi.  We mostly all liked it – but were glad we’d brought some American snacks to eat as well! 🙂

Afterwards we headed up to Bukhansan Park after walking a few blocks.  You can’t tell from this picture but we were already completely hot sweaty and exhausted – and we hadn’t even begun our hike yet!  That is one thing about Korea – 5 minutes out in the heat and you are DRAINED!  So stinking HOT!

We took some time exploring and found some cool sights.  Like this Korean cemetery.  In Korea the main method of burial is either above ground (like seen below) or cremation.

Then we decided to stop for a little dip in a watering hole we found in the river.  We had seen other people in the water and assumed it was okay, but apparently it was against the rules because just as we got out – some other people with the same idea got yelled at by a park ranger. Oops. Glad we had our fun before getting in trouble!

This spontaneous trip in the water ended up being one of our favorite parts of the day!

And check out these leaves?  We couldn’t tell if they were diseased or actually grew that way.  So weird!
