House on the Lake in Wayanad

The drive from Mysore to Wayanad was absolutely beautiful.  It was supposed to only be about 2.5 hours long, but one thing we have learned being here in India, is that everything takes MUCH longer than you think.  If its not the crazy traffic, than its hair pin turns, or random speed bumps, or getting behind a huge bus or semi on a steep mountain pass.  Needless to say, driving in India is always an adventure!
Once we got close to Wayanad though we really started to pay attention as we weren’t exactly sure where to find our next guesthouse.  We ended up going through one small town after another asking for directions, and several times thought we were dreadfully lost when we’d end up on little dirt roads going up and down mountains, but it ended up that we were on exactly the right road we should have been.  We had fun seeing all the beauty of the area though as we drove, but we were pretty sure we were going to avoid ever driving on that road ever again!  It was just crazy!
All our efforts were worth it though once we finally arrived at our destination, because it was BEAUTIFUL! Wow!  The home was very nice (and we had it all to ourselves as the owner lived next door) and the view was breathtaking and overlooked one of Wayanads beautiful lakes!  The house also had a HUGE backyard with a playground, and the coolest squishiest, puffiest grass we have ever seen.  It definitely tops ever grass encounter I’ve ever had! And their was a fish pond!  Talk about the perfect place for 3 boys and an adventurist little girl!  We LOVED it!

Doesn’t it look like the house is backed up to a Golf course?  Nope, just the AMAZING backyard!  And check out that view of the lake.  We were in Wayanad Heaven!

Here you can get a better glimpse of the puffy grass (as I like to call it),  It literally was about a foot high in spots and when you walked on it you would sink down all 12 inches.  But it wasn’t like you’d expect.  I was expecting it to be really wet underneath and swampy, but it wasn’t at all.  Just dry, puffy, perfect grass!  It was so awesome!

I loved all the flowers in the backyard as well.  So pretty!

Cathching polywogs, frogs, and fish!  These boys had such a ball!

Here you can see that Adalynn has lost a foot in the puffy grass.  Every step is seriously an adventure!

See that brown looking rocky thing in the bottom left corner?  That is an Aunt hill that eventually because a cobra’s house!  We saw these EVERYWHERE as we were driving (especially in the National park) and they can range anywhere from a few feet tall to 5 feet tall!  We made sure we didn’t get out of the car at all as we drove! I like snakes, but not the kind that can kill you!

Can this backyard get any better?  Yes it can – with an outdoor swing!  We got our whole family on this later that evening and enjoyed watching the sun go down.

Here Adam is demonstrating how the grass just sucks you down!  It literally cradled his head like a wee babe. 🙂

Super soft to lay on too!  That was until we discovered a poisonous black and red lizard scurrying about.

We all agreed that this was our very favorite place we stayed at while on our week long vacation. Everything about it just felt magical!
