The last few weeks have been pretty tough ones in the way that our whole family went through 2 weeks of SICK. It started out with Dawson getting a mysterious staph infection in his leg which required him missing some school and then needing antibiotics for 10 days. Then I came down with a bad cold while Adam was gone to SLC for a week working at Adobe’s Summit conference (he stayed in SLC at his sisters since he was schmoozing clients until late every night). Then one by one each of the kids and Adam caught my same cold. Needless to say only half of us felt well enough to go to church that Sunday (Branson, Dawson and I).
Then right after we all got over our colds, Adalynn came down with pink eye. Where she got it I will never know, since we’d literally isolated ourselves at home, but because she was the first to get it and because she is TWO and doesn’t quite get the concept of NOT wiping her eyes with her hands and then NOT touching everything in sight, it ended up that all 3 of the boys got it too. So. Not. Fun. And that required Branson missing a week of school, Harry missing 2 days, and Dawson missing 1 day. But thanks to good antibiotics we were finally able to nip that nasty bug in the butt. That bug sure liked setting up camp at our house for a good week though.
So you can imagine how anxious we all were to GET OUT of the house to do something fun after being cooped up for several weeks at home. We lucked out too when Adobe had a “come and tour the new Thanksgiving point Museum” for FREE day, for employees and their families. It was awesome to get out and have some fun family time during the kids Spring Break. Below are some pictures from our afternoon.
The museum was very different from any that I had been in, and was really tailored to to increase the imaginative and creative play in children – which I LOVED. It made my heart smile to see so many happy faces on kids all over the museum and to see the creativity they all came up with. The rooms were so awesome and were fun for both adults and kids.
The music room with a heart with no strings that played music, a room full of drums for kids to play with, a piano room, and other instruments room. The museum also had a dance studio where kids could learn different dances, an art room, magic room, library, bank, theater, puppet show room, bubbles room, and so many more. It was so fun!
Theater room complete with different backdrops on a stage, costumes for the kids to wear and even different lighting for the stage! Awesome!
A look at the outside of some of the buildings.
The magic room where the kids learned how to do magic tricks.
Library complete with both real and electronic books for the kids to read.
Puppet show room! Adalynn was the star of the show!
Water / Bubbles room. The kids could turn the “washers” in circles and create patterns with water. Then they also had a gigantic bubble blowing machine the kids could pull up and down to make bubbles with.
Making gigantic rectangle shaped bubbles for the kids! You could blow into the gigantic bubble and make cool shapes.
Art room where you could paint, draw with chalk, or do sand or pottery type things.
Lego Room! This was one of the kids favorites!
Interactive train room.
Play place for Toddlers or kids under 3
Leap frog activity to see how high you can jump.
Test how long you can swing on the rope without touching the floor.
Little market with vegetables and fruits to play with and play money.
They even had a dress up area.
Flap your arms like a hummingbird and see how many flaps you can do in a minute.
Rock climbing wall!
Kids play area complete with giant slides, jungle gymns, rope bridges, etc.
Although the jungle gym was fun – it was also very stressful because it is nearly impossible to see where your kids are (especially when you are trying to keep track of FOUR). We ended up losing Adalynn in this thing and found her on the next floor up, almost to where we first entered the building at the top of the stairs. TOTALLY scared me. And could be an easy place for someone to kidnap a child. I’m not sure I’ll let the kids do this activity again – it just wasn’t very organized and had me in a panic until all of us were back together again.
The museum also had a “water works” area, but the water portion of it wasn’t working yet (the museum isn’t officially opening until mid-May – Adobe just got a pre-tour) But it looked pretty fun. The museum also has a 4 acre playground outside for the kids to play on – which also wasn’t completed. Looks like it will be super fun when its done though!
One of our favorite rooms was the “courage room” where they had different activities like sticking your hand in a dark hole and having something crawl on your hand, or walking through a dark maze by only feeling your way through it.
The museum was really cool though and all the kids really enjoyed themselves and said the new museum is even more fun than the dinosaur museum (which they LOVE). I am just happy to have another fun place to take the kids that isn’t too far from home. And even better that its FREE through Adobe! Nice. Gotta love corporate benefits! 🙂 Sure was a fun way to spend one of the days of the kids Spring Break! Thanks Adobe!
