Stopping to see the Banyan tree on our way to Mysore threw our schedule off a little but in the end it ended up being pretty perfect because it got us to Mysore just in time to see the Palace Lights all lit up. Apparently the Palace only turns on the lights once a week and only for an hour so we really lucked out getting to see that while we were there. We also got to see a beautiful sunset on the way and then afterwards Adam found us a great hole in the wall Chinese place for dinner before we headed to our hotel. We ended up having quite a few leftovers and so we had them boxed up and gave them to our driver Naveen who apparently had never had Chinese food before. He absolutely loved it and from that moment on we pretty much gave him all our extra food. He got to try American chocolates (Reeces – which he didn’t realize was chocolate and put it in his pocket and it later melted making a huge mess) and even French Fries. It was one of our greatest pleasures seeing his face light up as we offered him new foods. After tasting his first french fry, I asked him what he thought and his response was “Oh it was beautiful Madam!” It was fun to see him get to enjoy some new pleasures in life!
The sunset we watched as we were driving to Mysore
Mysore Palace Lights! Amazing!
We also got to see the palace lights turn off – and the below picture is what the palace looked like after the lights turned off. Still pretty cool!
I loved how each hotel had their workers dressed up in traditional Indian attire with the head dress and everything. I asked if I could get a picture! They just look so great!
The hotel Adam booked for us in Mysore was actually pretty amazing and had been a palace as well at one point. It was a little more expensive than other hotels in India but still only about $120 per night. It was well worth it though getting to sleep in a real palace. More pictures to come! But here are a few I took that evening as we were being escorted to our room.
Because the hotel/palace was so old – our room key was the same as what they had used hundreds of years earlier. Check out that key! So awesome!
Another absolutely wonderful day in India.
We truly were just in Heaven being able to see so many beautiful places!
