As I’m sure I’ve mentioned here on the blog many times, birthdays around here are not just celebrated for one day. We like to drag them out as long as humanly possible and at least have what we call “birthday week!”
Adam especially loves his birthday week (his birthday is his favorite holiday after all) and he usually requests that I get several days of babysitters during his special week so that we can go out and do stuff he likes. đ Last year he used his babysitter days to go skiing and have a movie marathon day. But because the slopes hadn’t received any “new” snow in several weeks, he decided to postpone that day until we have another good snow storm.
So for one of his babysitter birthday days we just had fun going out to eat with a co-worker of Adam’s who is moving to Singapore (and who Ad is trying to convince to come work for him) at a Thai place in American Fork. Then afterwards we ran some errands and then headed back to Payson to watch the movie “Saving Mr. Banks” (highly recommended).
Then another day we decided we wanted to attend the temple. The only problem was…almost all the temples in Utah Valley were CLOSED (it was New Years Eve day). Lucky for us though, we found that Manti Temple was open until 11:00 am. So we hustled down there to make their 10:30 session. It was an absolutely beautiful day and we loved being able to see the live session and enjoyed the 1 hour drive to and from Manti. On our way home Adam got a hankering for some Chinese food – and so we made a stop at a hole in the wall Chinese place near Manti for a late lunch. Adam said he liked the food better than Tsing Tao’s (our favorite local joint). Wow!
For Adam’s real birthday though (which landed on a Friday) his request was to have my parents and his parents over for a homemade Korean dinner! We started the morning off with presents (Adam got a GoPro Camera that you can strap to your head, helmet, car etc. and take videos) and then we made him some yummy orange rolls and cinnamon rolls for breakfast. He decided to go into work for the day and had lunch in the cafeteria at Adobe (his favorite portabello mushroom burger) while the kids and I spent most of the day prepping Korean food for that evening.
I ended up making beef and chicken bulgogi, Korean potatoes, lettuce wraps, Dukkpokki (a hot spicy red pepper soup like dish), pot stickers, rice, & a sweet soy sauce dipping sauce. And boy did it all turn out good! Both Adam’s parents and my parents (as well as Adam) raved about which made me feel good since I’m really not very experience yet at making Korean food. My one worry now though, is that Adam will want to do this for his birthday EVERY year, and Its a LOT of work. I’d much rather prefer to just drive to a Korean place and let THEM to all the work! ha ha! But it was a really fun evening and we loved that both sets of parents could come! đ

The party later on that evening with both sets of parents! Thanks for coming guys! đ
Even the kids loved the food and especially loved using their new chopsticks Nana & Papa brought back from Thailand for them!
We ended the evening by gorging on my Mom’s homemade Cream Cheese cookies and then we broke out Adam’s chocolate chip cookie dough ice cream pie so we could sing to him and he could blow out his candles. Sure do love this fella of mine! So so glad he was born!
