This year it was the Harrison families “off year” for Thanksgiving which means that we all go to our In-laws for the REAL Thanksgiving Day. What I like best about my family though is that my Mom never lets that little fact stand in her way and instead of just waiting until the next year to get us all together for the Thanksgiving holiday – she simply just schedules her own day to do Thanksgiving! And who doesn’t like being able to have two delicious Turkey dinners in one week, and to spent lots of time with family being grateful for all their blessings? We certainly don’t! đ
So the Sunday before Thanksgiving my side of the family got together for our traditional holiday feast. Mom and Dad did the turkey with all the trimmings and then the rest of us brought other side dishes to and pies to share as well. And boy oh boy was it a wonderful day!
We had a little bit of a disappointment earlier in the day though- when we came to find out my brother-in-law Nicks car got two flat tires and they wouldn’t be able to make it, but with a little coordinating on Adam and I’s part, we figured out a way to go and pick everyone up in our two vehicles, and then we let Nick take our truck home so that he could use it to get his tires fixed the next day. We were so glad that we were able t figure out a way for them to come, but we really REALLY missed my sister, who ended up having to stay home because she was so sick that day. It wasn’t the same without her. đ
As has become tradition we ended up having our big feast in my parents basement where it works best to set up a few ping pong tables for us all to eat around! ha! We love it though and its fun for everyone to be in the same room. đ
Branson excited for the feast. Here he is showing off some of the Harrison’s Thanksgiving favorites such as sweet potatoes, raspberry jello, sweet cauliflower, and cheesy potatoes!
The men in the family – minus Mom who is a great photo bomber! đ
Bestie cousins Kollin and Harry.
After our wonderful Thanksgiving feast we all participated in our families annual service project of doing goodie bags for the kids at the food bank. Each year we all donate 100 different items to put in the bags and then we take them to the food bank for the kids who come in with their families needing food support. Usually the bags include a drink, crackers, fruit snacks, granola bars, candy, rice krispy treats, and a toy. We have everyone in the Harrison family help out in the assembly line putting items in the bags, and then we tie the bags and put on bows or stickers to make them look cute. We all really love doing this each year and love getting to GIVE to others and bless their lives when we have been so blessed ourselves. I sure do love my family!
The rest of the night was spent catching up, teasing (of course), and then we all watched “Man of Steel.” What a great day spent with so many we love! We really have so very much to be Thankful for!
