This post is mostly for me and the kids, but I wanted to capture what our house looks like at Christmas and some of the decorations that we have traditions around. Christmas is so nostalgic for me, and I still to this day remember most of the decorations my Mom put up, the music we would listen to, and the fun traditions we would do, but I am also sure I’m forgetting some too. This post is just so that the kids and I can remember what Christmas looked e in 2013.
Some years we do a red and green tree and some years we do a blue one.
This year we chose blue! Its my favorite! The kids usually get a tree of their own to decorate as well, but our kid tree got destroyed last year so we are on the lookout for a new one.
Every year we do a Christmas villiage and usually add one piece onto it every year. I have yet to get our 2013 piece yet though. Whoops. I need to get on that. I did come up with an inventive way to make sure all the houses have lights that work in them though. Simply string your normal white lights through each of the houses and whala! Lit up houses without having to buy the special bulbs! Nice!
We don’t have a fireplace, so we resort to putting our stockings on the curtain rods above our windows. This year we also added some 4 ft blow up characters I got on groupon for a great deal (seen in the right hand corner). The kids LOVE these and even named them. The penguins name I think is Chris and the Elephants name I forget. ???
We love our nutcrackers, and the little Santa in the middle was painted by Dorothy Andrus from my mission. I love to pull it out every year and remember my special friends. đ My Mom gave us the taller Santa too so I always think of her.
Although some of the pieces to our little village came from D.I. or were hand me downs from family, others we bought because they had significant meaning. The Walmart one in the middle on the shelf was because that was pretty much the only store we went to when we first moved to Payson since we didn’t know of anything else really around. The one next to it is a steakhouse and symbolizes the year I was pregnant with Harry and all I wanted to eat was steak! Adam had to take me to Sizzler often to satisfy my craving, and the tree house decoration symbolizes our first Christmas together. We were newlyweds and felt like we were still kids trying to build our life together. It seemed the perfect piece for our playful and fun personalities! đ
And just for fun, here are some more beautiful pictures of the mountains near our house right before sunrise! GORGEOUS!
