Schofield Cabin, The Wedge, & Texas Roadhouse

For our last big adventure with Rajesh and Gaurav we decided it would be fun to take them to see one of my families favorite places called the Wedge down in the San Rafel Swells area.  My family has been going to this place for over 25 years and so its just a magical and wonderful place for me.  Plus it looks a LOT like Moab, but is only half the drive, so its a great place to get away for the weekend, which is precisely what we did. 🙂
Friday night after work Adam brought Gaurav and Rajesh home with him while the kids and I made food and packed as LIGHTLY as we could so that we could get all 8 of us AND all our stuff in our Honda Pilot for our little get-away weekend.  Boy was that ever fun!  Especially trying to fit in an ice chest! But I was pretty proud of my mad fat organizing skills for getting everything in! ha!
Then before leaving the kids and I went and picked up some deep dish pizzas and breadsticks so that we could have dinner as we drove up to the Egbert cabin in Schofield.  The drive is about an hour and 15 minutes long so we were able to arrive at the cabin just after 7 pm.  Nice!  It was a full moon that night so Adam took Gaurav and Rajesh around to take pictures while I unloaded and got kids ready for bed.
That evening we pretty much just stayed up talking and then the next morning we had french toast and eggs for breakfast (which Gaurav so kindly cooked up for us.  Thanks Gaurav!) and then we set off for our adventure to the Wedge!  It was an absolutely beautiful day to spend in the canyon!
A picture of Schofield Lake as we were driving out that morning.

As we drove, Rajesh and Gaurav introduced us to some of their favorite Indian tunes which they hooked up to our car through their cell phones so that we could experience some of their music.  Adam and I both LOVED it – and loved the fun beats and musical instruments used in Indian music.  So cool. We just hope we can find some of the music on itunes! 🙂

The first stop we made was to the Wedge overlook which is also sometimes know as the little Grand Canyon.  I think you can see why it earned that awesome nickname from the pics below.  GORGEOUS!!!

I love Ady’s hair in this one. 🙂  Crazy!

After spending some time at the TOP of the Wedge it was then time to go and drive down inside of it.  So after some snacks of veggies and fruit and dip we made our way down into the canyon.

We of course stopped to see the pictographs the Wedge is known for.

Then we continued our drive through the beautiful canyon.

Another one of our stops was to hike up to see an old dinosaur foot print.  While we were in the area we also decided to scale some of the rock walls.  SUCH a fun climb.  But we didn’t go up too far since we didn’t have ropes, but Ad and I would love to come and climb to the top someday!

Here is the rock face we climbed.  So fun!  We only made it about half way up before we felt we probably should come back with ropes.  It would have been easy going up…but not so easy coming down.

A picture of Gaurav from my perch just above him.  Beautiful!

Looking down at my little rock climbers!  Love them!

Love these two cute faces!

We ended our day at the wedge by hiking to a new place Adam found on his phone that was an actual arch (sort of like the one in Moab but not as big) which was AWESOME.  Unfortunately I didn’t get any pictures.  đŸ™  Adam took his phone up and has the pictures on that.
That evening we decided to hit the Texas Roadhouse on our way home for dinner and then we did some shopping at Burlington Coat Factory so that Gaurav and Rajesh could take back some presents for their loved ones.  It truly was just an amazing day spent with friends who we now consider family!
Thanks so much for coming with us Uncle Rajesh and Uncle Gaurav!  Our kids adore you and miss you! We enjoyed every moment we got to spend with you!  Please come back and see us again soon!

Our last dinner together before Rajesh and Gaurav flew out for their next adventure in Detroit.

Sure was a wonderful week spent with our new and wonderful friends.
