This year was really the first year that we have experienced an “abundance” of fruit from our fruit trees. When we first moved into our house (almost 5 years ago) one of our first priorities was planting fruit trees because we knew it takes trees some time to really get big enough for a decent harvest.
Unfortunately though we kept having really bad luck year after year with most of our buds freezing, or trees dying from bugs, or just not producing much fruit. So you can imagine our JOY when not one but THREE of our peach trees did really well this year. The nice thing about the peaches too is that all three trees became ripe at completely different times and had completely different tastes to them so we always had something yummy to eat from the tree.
Because of our rich abundance I also got to try my hand at peach freezer jam and fruit leather so our yummy peaches didn’t go to waste. We spent almost everyday for a week, canning, or drying the peaches to store away for later use. Dawson and Adalynn were great little helpers too and loved getting to “wash the fruit,” and push the buttons to “start the blender.” And of course they were excellent taste testers too.
And just to keep things REAL on this blog. Below are the “aftermath” pictures of my kitchen during our hours canning and drying fruit. A peach tornado came with a vengeance! đ
But it always feels good to get it all cleaned up and to see the rewards of our efforts!
