Geralds Surprise Party

Right after we got home from the Wind Rivers – life just hit us full force with my Papa dying, Adalynn’s birthday to prepare for, and Adam needing to leave for India for two weeks.  However, one of the things I told Adam we HAD to do before he left – was to schedule in a date night together. I wanted some time with him sans kids before life as a single mother kicked in and since I was going to be missing two weeks of date nights with him.  So on Friday night I scheduled a babysitter and was excited for a night out with my man.
Sometime that afternoon I got an instant message from my dear friend Missy with the question, “Hey are you guys coming tonight?”  Instantly I started to wrack my brain for some semblance of an idea as to what she was referring to and I wondered if I had failed to pencil in something on our calendar that was important.   Actually what had REALLY happened was that Nichole had called us several times that week leaving messages about a surprise party she was throwing for Gerald but we’d been in the Wind Rivers all week without cell coverage and no messages had come through on either phone.  So this was the first time we were hearing about.
Missy quickly filled me in on the details and I was just THRILLED that we were already all set up to go with a babysitter and could come!  We unfortunately missed the “surprise” part of the party, but they were happy to have us come none the less.  And we just loved being able to sneak in on all the fun last minute.  These are afterall some of our very favorite friends in the whole wide world.
Colie for Ger’s birthday had decided to reenact their first date (which Missy and Joey set up by the way) and so we had Navajo tacos for dinner with all the fixins on Joey’s homemade scones.  And we may or may not have used the leftover scones to make Nutella sandwiches for a tasty treat afterwards.  Needless to say we were STUFFED.

Afterwards Kimber and Eric introduced us to a fun new game they had called Telestrations that is sort of like playing telephone but using pictures and words.  And oh my goodness did if have us all in a fit of giggles all night.  I don’t remember the last time we all laughed that hard.  Adam was crying he was laughing so hard and I was laughing so hard my laughs started to sound like “ho ho ho’s” because I had to hold my cheeks together to keep them from hurting.  It was an absolutely hilarious game.

For instance.  A simple picture of a family with some animal ended up being interpreted as:
a family of squash eating wolves.

Later we purposely interrupted our laughter (to give our cheeks and belly’s a rest) in order to celebrate this great mans birthday with a tasty chocolate cake, a lovely birthday song, and the blowing out of candles.  Happy freakin’ old birthday to you Ger!  🙂  He’s the oldest in our group so I can say that and dang near 40 if that gives you any clues!

Then it was back to our game.  Somehow sitting bull ended up being Farmer Superman Door.
and Chicken breast ended up being pooping eggs.  Don’t even ask.

It sure was a wonderful night spent with wonderful friends!  And we will definitely be playing this game again!  We loved it!  Happy Birthday Ger. Thanks for letting us be a part of your special day!
LOVE YOU GUYS!
