On day three of being at the Winds the boys (Adam, Parris, and Cam) decided to go to their all time favorite place – which the Egbert family calls “Lost Lake.” It is about a 12 mile hike round trip and if you remember last years experience trying to go there – there is a good reason they call it Lost Lake…because its DANG hard to find. There is no trail and if you don’t hit the ridge of the mountain just right you can get horribly lost. Or horribly off track if you are Adam and the boys and try to attempt a shortcut like they did last year (Adam had GPS and knew where they were – he just wasn’t sure how to get to where they were going).
This year Adam promised me he’d stick to the way he KNOWS and so with big smiles on their faces – he and Brans and Harry (along with Parris’s family and Cam’s family) all headed out for Lost.
Cute family pic after breakfast!
Dawson was a little sad that morning that he didn’t get to go hiking with Adam and Brans and Harry to Lost Lake – so after checking with Mum to see if she’d watch Adalynn for a moment – I told him that we could hike up part way with them. We didn’t go far – just over to the porcipine creek crossing, but it was enough to make him feel included and loved.
It also gave me a chance to take some pics of the “rest of our group” who were usually gone from 9:30 am until 10:00 pm everyday.
On our way back to camp Dawson and I took a short cut down by the lake and had fun playing with sticks and taking pictures.
That day Mumsie gave Adalynn a cute little pink bandanna that she wore the rest of the day!
She seriously melted my heart in that thing. So adorable!
Later during Adalynns nap time Dawson and I once again went on a short little hike but this time we decided to head North along the lake. We found some cool things along the way – like this awesome little camp ground with homemade tables and chairs. We were so wishing we could take them home with us to use in our camp. They were so cool!
We also found a few lady bugs and loved playing with those for awhile and letting them crawl all over us! They stayed on our hands all the way to camp and I teased Dawson that they liked him so much they wanted to stay with him forever! 🙂
That evening we had freezed dried mountain house meals for our dinner (chicken and mashed potatoes and stew) and then we made smores for dessert. Adam and the boys along with Lisel and Jackson didn’t end up getting home until after 10 pm that night (which in all fairness they warned us it might be) but then we all got really worried when once again Cam and Erin and Parris still hadn’t come back and it was nearing 11:30. Erin had hurt her knees pretty bad hiking that day and so they’d had to take things really slow – but still it was taking them longer than we expected and we were worried about the dropping temperatures so Adam and Lisel went back out again to take them warm clothes and hats. We were all very relieved when they all made it back safely and it goes without saying that hot chocolate was on the menu for dinner that night!
