One of our last adventures while we were in Leavenworth was to head up the canyon and visit two lakes that we had heard about – Lake Wanachee and Fish Lake. The drive up through the canyon was so beautiful and then the lakes themselves were just breathtaking. The weather was really nice too – a little windy – but that ended up being a really good thing because the mosquitoes were out in flocks and seemed to really love me. I ended up getting bit on both ankles and then again underneath my right eye. The next day the bite under my eye had swollen up to be what looked like a HUGE sty and Adam teased me that it looked like he’d beaten me up and given me a black eye. It was seriously attractive! ha!
We first went to Lake Wanachee state park and once again let the kids loose to play on the playground. Adalynn and Dawson were both asleep so Adam stayed in the car with them while the other boys and I played.
I wish you could see this better, but the trees looked so beautiful with the blue sky and blue lake waters behind them. Unfortunately the blue doesn’t show up to well in the pic though, but I loved it.
After visiting the Stake park we decided to drive around the lake and explore some of the area. We ended up finding a little dirt road that took us right down to the water and to a campground where you could see the other side of the lake and these awesome glacier mountains.
One of our favorite finds was this gigantic fallen tree. It doesn’t look like much in this pic, but it was HUGE and required us all to get help climbing to the top of it for this picture.
After exploring a little further we found this great little sandy beach to play at.
It was a great way to end our vacation with a bang! We sure do love nature.
