For our first big adventure in Leavenworth we decided it would be fun to do some rock climbing up Icicle Canyon. A gentleman at the pool had told us about the canyon and that it was actually rated as one of the best 10 rock climbing places in America – so we of course had to go and check it out. Before going though we were able to have a yummy breakfast of pancakes and eggs and then while I made up some PBJ’s and fruit for lunch the boys had fun making a fort in their bedroom using all the couch cushions, pillows, and blankets in the condo.
Then we were off for our fun day! Can you see why they call this place the Swiss Alps of Washington? So pretty!
The whole day was just PERFECT. I kept telling Adam I was in my “happy place.” It just didn’t get any better than driving up a beautiful canyon, listening to John Denver, and being with my wonderful family. The only thing that would have made it more perfect would have been if there was a beautiful tropical beach at the end of the canyon with clear blue Caribbean waters. ha!
We didn’t know anything about the canyon – or where to go so part of the fun was just exploring little side roads to see where they led. We were able to find some amazing places doing this and it was one of our favorite activities for the day!
Every turn was just so magnificent. We stopped often to take pictures.
At lunch time we found a great little spot next to the river to eat our sandwiches on a ginormous boulder. Afterwards we had fun climbing around on logs and boulders and playing in little pools of water just off from the river (the river was running to fast to allow the kids anywhere near it).
A cool hole in the rock.
After our picnic lunch we headed up to a great rock climbing spot to do some climbing/bouldering. This is a picture of all of us at the top of our first little climb.
And this is a picture of the place where we were rock climbing.
It seriously was a perfect day. Unfortunately though for me – I ended up having some tummy problems the rest of the day and needed to be near a bathroom. So we headed back into town where Adam dropped me and Adalynn off to rest and take naps while Ad and the boys went on some other adventures. Pictures to come.
