Egbert Family Reunion Cruise!

We had to laugh when we finally arrived at the port of our departure because, well…it wasn’t our port of departure!  Apparently Carnival once used to leave from the Los Angelas port – So Clint and Carol took us over to that one – but it was actually the Long Beach port we needed to go to.  We luckily figured it out after a few phones calls and were able to make it to our correct port with just a small delay.  We had to laugh though when Dean and Janet went to check in though because apparently they hadn’t brought the “proper identification.”  The cruiseline had posted that they accepted drivers licenses but apparently that is only with ANOTHER form of identification as well.  So poor Sam and Erica had to be escorted to another room and then had to call home to have family fax over their passports.  Whoops!
Getting ready to board the ship

The kids were so excited they were RUNNING to get on!

They loved exploring our room.  We ended up sleeping 5 of us in our room and then Brans bunked in with Mum and Smurf.  Adalynn as usually just wanted to “look outside.”

After we finally were able to get checked in though we were all ravenous so we immediately headed up to the lido deck to grab something to eat.  Again we had to laugh when pretty much EVERYTHING had just closed.  And I’m not kidding.  Every place we went to had just barely closed and just as we got to our last one they too shooed us away saying they were shutting down too. I begged and pleaded with a worker there though to please let us jump in (there was still food out) because all 4 of my kids were starving at that point.  The crew member luckily took pitty on me saying he also had kids and he allowed us to go through.  We were able to snag 3 hotdogs for the kids and a plate of fries and chicken tenders to share with some chocolate milks to wash it all down.  Not exactly the lunch of champions but it was food and we were grateful for the kindess of the crew member!

Then all passengers were required to of course go through the “in case of emergency” training and to figure out where your lifeboats were.  We were able to snag a few pictures of the city while were were practicing the drill.

Then after that we had another meeting for the kids where we had to register them for Camp Carnival and learn all the rules and regulations for that.  The kids kept themselves entertained by watching the boat take off.

The rest of that afternoon was spent trying to get our dinner time changed (they had messed up and put us on LATE dining at 8:15 instead of earling dining at 6pm) and so we tried 3 different times to go and talk to the matre d’.  We also ran around trying to figure out where camp carnival was to take the kids to and pretty much got to see the entire ship while looking around for that. 🙂   It was kind of a crazy afternoon.

When we did finally find Camp Carnival though (which was in the disco) they were having family time  so we had fun playing some games with the kids and then having a dance competition.  They started off with a game where you had to pass a balloon around only using your wrists, and then the second round you did it with your elbows.

Then they divided the kids from the adults and had the kids and adults compete to see who could dance the best.  Apparently they were also watching for particularly crazy dancers too because I ended up winning the Best Mommy Dancer award.  Woot Woot! 🙂  I got a medal and everything!

Later we took a little tour of the boat and showed the kids the pool/slide area.  They were stoked to have something so fun on the ship!

That evening we took the kids to eat on the lido deck (which was actually completely insane trying to get plates of food for 6 people a midst like 6 different buffets) and of course all of them took turns also needing to go to the bathroom during dinner as well. Then afterwards the kids wanted to go to some camp carnival activities.  Adam and I were more than happy to let them go to reduce the number of kids from 4 down to 1 for a few hours and lesson the frequent bathroom trips. ha ha.

This also allowed us to go and join up with everyone at the 8:15 late dining time where Adam and I ordered dessert.  It was so nice to just be able to talk and catch up with everyone while being served delicious foods and be waited on.  Ahhhh.  Finally some peace.  It didn’t last long though and before we knew it it was time to sneak out of dinner early to go and pick up the kids.

The kids all did terrifically well though getting ready for bed and then all of them went right out after prayers and scriptures.  It had been a long day of driving and getting organized and having fun and we were all worn out.  Adam and I went to bed just shortly after they did.  We were pooped!
