This last weekend was our wonderful Mumsie’s birthday and since we had our Logan Cabin booked we decided it would be appropriate to take Mumsie up with us since it is after all one of her favorite places (it was build by her Dad when she was a child and was where she spent every Sunday evening growing up).
So up the cabin we went. We made a little pit stop in Brigham City though and were thrilled to be able to go and see the new Brigham City Temple and go through the Open House. I WISH I had remembered to take pictures outside because it was absolutely BEAUTIFUL! The kids really loved getting to see the inside as well and even remembered a lot from when we went and saw the Draper Temple Open House. I was so glad.
Afterwards we headed over to Maddox’s which is a steakhouse that Mum and Smurf and Adam grew up going to. It had a VERY long wait due to the Open House but was well worth the wait as the rolls, and food were incredible. It totally rivaled Texas Roadhouses food for sure! The rolls were the softest I’ve ever had and they came with the most amazing raspberry butter and corn bread. Holy Yum! Then Adam and I split a Maddox special which was their signature fried chicken, a turkey steak, and chicken fried steak. I was impressed with all three and their mashed potatoes were to die for. Then they gave Mumsie a peach pie dessert for her dessert and OH MY! Probably one of the best peach desserts I’ve ever tasted. Mmmm good!
At Maddox’s awaiting our dinner
We were smart and took the boys to Wendy’s beforehand.
That was really good since we had a 45 minute wait to even get into eat! Made for much happier kids!
We made it to the cabin a few minutes before Mum and Smurf (who had our gate keys) so the kids and Adam went on a little walk while I waited in the car.
The boys loved playing in the wood pile – but got in a little trouble when they decided to start throwing all the wood in the creek! Whoops!
The hit is always of course the Tree Swing.
It is the true love of both Adam and the boys and is what makes the cabin so magical!
I love those happy faces!
Friday night we pretty much just hung around the cabin and at around 8:00 Adam’s best friend from High School Jake Penrose and his family came up for some birthday dessert. I made Mumsie a Pecan Pie (her favorite) and then we also brought up some peach cobbler that was leftover from Adam’s work party. It was great seeing the Penroses again and catching up on each others lives.
Then on Saturday after filling our tummies with breakfast burritos and getting ready for the day we headed up to the Bear Lake area for some Raspberry shakes and to go Huckleberry Picking in a canyon about 30 minutes North of the Lake. We stopped for a short break though at the Bear Lake lookout and got a few pictures. This usually is one of my favorite spots to see the lake but unfortunately it was really hazy due to all the fires. Still pretty though.
I’m not sure why but Smurf wanted a picture of Mumsie standing on the picnic table in this pose.
Cracked us all up!
When we arrived at our favorite Huckleberry picking spot we set out a blanket and had a nice picnic lunch before heading out to hike up to the Huckleberries. Lunch consisted of Ham sandwiches, apples, pears, chips, and cookies.
Group pictures before heading out on our Huckleberry hike.
Not sure why this picture has spots and is blurry – but its the best family shot we got this trip!
So there you go!
Unfortunately we missed Huckleberry season by a few weeks. Its been a really dry year and almost all of the berries were shriveled and dried up. We did find about 20 plump berries though and shared them between the 7 of us (Smurf stayed back with the cars to rest in his Lafooma chair).
This is what happens when you tell everyone to laugh!
On Sunday we were able to go to church with the Penrose Family in Smithfield who happen to live in the EXACT same ward that Adam grew up in. It was really fun for Adam and Mum and Smurf to visit with old friends and they even met the people who had purchased their home that they lived in and raised 7 kids in for 30 years. It was a young couple married 9 years and they kindly invited us over to see what they had done with the place. Needless to say it looked AMAZING both inside and out. They had completely renovated the house and made it look modern and trendy. It was really fun to see and hear about all the changes they had made to the original house.
From there we headed over to Kevin and Sydney Penroses for a nice Lasagna dinner. They also invited their son Jake and Tiffany (who had come up to the cabin with us Friday) so we had another chance to visit with them. It was a great and relaxing Sunday afternoon spent with friends!
