Sitka Alaska

For our next port in Sitka Alaska we decided to just play things by ear – which ended up being a wonderful decision.  We got off the boat and found the visitor’s center and just as we arrived we learned that they were about to start one of their Russian Dance shows. So we paid our $10 each and headed in.  It ended up being a womans group who had been performing together for over 30 years – and they performed both the mens and womens parts.  They did a pretty good job too and we were glad we went.

From there we found a shuttle bus driver who would take us wherever we wanted all day long for $7 a person.  Score.  So we headed out to Fortress of the Bears to see some wildlife.  I LOVED this and the bears were really well trained and fun to watch.  You could tell the trainers really loved the bears and that the bears were well taken care of.

My favorite part was seeing how the bears would put up their hands and in a begging motion ask for food.  It was really cute.  Looked like they were praying!  And the trainers would reward them with a tasty apple or vegetable.

They also had this little petting zoo where you could feed goats and ducks and ponies a bucket of fresh fruit and veggies.  The apples seemed to be the favorite!

There were bald eagles EVERYWHERE!

Later we decided to go on a hike out to the Totem Pole Park.  It was a free park and absolutely BEAUTIFUL to walk through.  I was in love with the lush green trees, flowers, and bushes.  So Pretty!

The roots of the trees were incredible too as they would grow FEET up in the air.  Here I am crouching beneath one of these awesome root systems.

You could either walk around outside and see totem poles or they also had a bunch inside a museum.
Pretty cool place if I do say so myself and did I mention its FREE?

Sitka’s Volcano

Adam wanted to get off the beaten path a bit so we took a detour on our Totem Park Trail out to the sea.

Adam and I decided to walk back into town afterwards and just look around until it was time to board for the ship.  We had a bit of fun along the way.

Sitka was beautiful and we really enjoyed our day.  Afterwards we headed up to grab some lunch in the Lido and then headed back down to our rooms to watch the disembarkation.  I LOVED the scenery as we left.  Everything up in Alaska is so beautiful!

That night we had our 2nd of formal nights and had a BLAST getting all dressed up and going dancing.  Have I mentioned how much I LOVE these formal nights?  It totally made my night too when we got to the dining room and discovered LOBSTER and FILET MIGNON on the menu….together.  I thought I had died and gone to heaven.  Best MEAL of the trip for sure!  Below is Adam excited about his escargot! (snails) YUCK!

Love these two cutie faces!

After dinner we headed out for some pictures and dancing

It was a perfect end to a perfect day!
