The other big thing you are doing at 9 months is trying to TALK. You like to say bla bla bla, da da da, ba ba ba, (and occasionally ma ma) and you make all sorts of sounds by blowing out your lips. Recently you have also developed a high pitched squawk that makes us all wince too. We are pretty sure the boys are teaching you that one. But you LOVE to try to say words we do and we think its so cute to watch you try.
Right now you also do a social cough and will mimic us doing it occasionally. You always get a big grin on your face when we repeat sounds you make and you get an even bigger grin when you are able to repeat sounds we make. It melts our hearts to hear your sweet little voice.
You now have two teeth – (see picture below) and you LOVE to bite on everything. Your thumb seems to be the object of choice though and although you don’t suck on it – you nibble on it and its adorable.
You are super grabby right now – and want to touch and hold everything in site. Whether its the chair in front of me in Relief Society, someones clothes, or the pen I’m trying to write with or the book I’m trying to read – you want part of it and will wiggle and squirm in every direction to try to reach that object.
Recently you started figuring out how to get your bow off your head too and you will pull it down so it is around your neck. We find that in order to get you to leave the bow on that we have to distract you when we put it on by putting something else in your hands to which you can hold.
Your eating habits are still about the same and you STILL won’t touch food that is mashed or fed to you by way of a spoon. In fact most of the time you won’t let us put the food in your mouth period – and you prefer foods that you can grab yourself. I often have to hold it out to you – so that you can grab it in between your chubby little fingers and put it in your own mouth. Your favorite things to eat are kix, cheerios, and bread. Besides that – you really don’t care for much besides your breast milk which you drink 4 times a day. You usually take in between 6-8 oz at each feeding.
You are still sleeping like a champ and usually go down around 8:30 pm and then sleep until around 7:30 am. 11 hours aint too shabby! Then you still take 3 naps a day about 1-2 hours each.
Your very sociable right now which can be a good or bad thing. Its bad in the way that if there is a party going on or we are at someones house you will fight us tooth and nail over taking a nap. The good news though is that you are still as happy as ever if you miss that nap and completely content to just sit on our laps while we talk to friends or catch up with family. It amazes me how even tempered you can be even when you are so tired.
Right now your favorite thing to play with for some reason are the tubes of my breast pump. Weird I know – but you LOVE them and will sit and whip them around if they are anywhere near you. You also really like to play with the rubber fish when taking baths and love to chew on them.
You are just starting to notice mirrors and that there is another person in them. Often I will put you in front of a mirror on the floor and watch your reaction. You like to put your hands up to touch the “other baby” and often can see me in the mirror as well. You will look at me in the mirror – but then look to where I really am and go back and forth between us as if you are trying to figure out which one is real. It makes me laugh to see you try to figure things out.
You are giggling more now – but it is still a lot of work. When people ask us what your personality is like Daddy always uses the word STOIC. Meaning that you just don’t react much. He can be tickling you, throwing you in the air, smiling at you, talking to you, etc. and you will just look at him with the same face. No reaction whatsoever. Of course you smile too and do react – but you are by far the most emotionless of all our children so far. It will be interesting to see if that continues as you get older.
Just this last week you started getting on your knees and are now rocking back and forth and going from a sitting position to a crawling position although you haven’t yet figured out how to move much. If you do move it is usually by digging your toes into the floor or bed and then pushing yourself forward. Or you will push backwards with your arms to go the other way. Needless to say – whatever you are doing is working because you are ALL over a room if we put you down.
To sum things up though little miss – you are a TREASURE!!! We absolutely are so blessed to have you as part of our family. Your brothers adore you, your parents adore you, and you just brighten up our minutes, hours, and days! We sure are blessed to have you as our very own little girl. Sure do love you princess pants!
