Bush Burning

A few Saturday’s ago Payson had an “Open Fire” Day where you could burn anything you wanted to in your yard as long as you called it into the fire department. So in an effort to cut down on our weeds (and actually get an idea of what our yard REALLY looks like) we decided to try our hands at a controlled bush fire. Surprisingly enough it was pretty easy (even with the crazy winds that day) and we had nothing go wrong. The kids thought it was the coolest thing ever too and have been asking every weekend since if we can do it again! 🙂

We started out by raking as many weeds as we could into a pile

Then we would extend the pile out as far as we could to touch the “taller weeds”
so they too would catch on fire.

This is a before shot of what the yard looked like before the burn

And here is an after shot. We didn’t realize that our hill slanted so much and after bringing in some professional landscapers we’ve been told by all of them that we need to put in some more rock retaining walls! We have them scheduled to come out this next week and I’m SO excited!

Another after shot from the other side of the house. We had to burn both tiers of our yard.

While Adam and I worked Brans and Harry and Dawson played on the grass and in the empty lot next door with our neighbor friends Blake and Sydney. So at lunch time I thought it would be fun to make them all a picnic. They LOVED it!

Showing off their picnic loot!

This little guy and I decided to take our picnic inside so Mom could clean house and mop floors!

Afterwords Branson and his friends dug a hole in the ground, which they called their “volcano” and asked to have a fire. So we obliged and sat around our volcano fire for hours talking to our friends (Blakes parents) Dave and Liz. It was so fun to get to know them better and learn more about their lives. What a wonderful way to spend a Saturday!
