House Projects

At the beginning of the new year Adam and I decided it was time to get going on his office downstairs. He has one on our main floor but it is just entirely too noisy with the boys running back and forth, riding their bikes, and the screaming laughing and tantrums that happen frequently.

Poor Adam has been working down in the cold basement 2 times a week since September without heat. We had hoped to get the basement mostly finished over his 2 week break at Christmas, but with all the holiday parties and then all of us getting sick it just didn’t happen. So January was our month and we hit it as hard as we could.

Here is the office before we started all the construction

This picture is looking down at his office. It is at the very end of the room and had just a single wall framed (behind the toilet)

Adam’s first line of business was to frame the room with the help of our good friend Byron McKinnon. We decided to put in double french doors and make a hallway to the only bathroom downstairs so that people wouldn’t have to go through Ad’s office to get to it.

This is a look at the framed closet. The ceilings in our basement are 11 feet tall.

Our next line of attack was to insulate and sound proof the ceiling. We ended up cutting and putting up sound board and then sheet rocking over it. This was an all day project for us even with the help of our awesome nephew Ryan and our friend Justin Mueke.

The hardest part was holding up the heavy sheet rock on the ceiling while the other put in the screws. Since Adam’s got the muscles I got to do the screws.

After sheet rocking the ceiling we started on the walls. We also decided to put a window up above the french doors and therefore took out the framing until we get the window in.

This is what the office currently looks like

Ad is just excited to have walls!

After we are done sheet rocking we plan to hire out the mudding and texturing of the walls. Then we will start painting and put in hard wood floors. Its been a fun project that Adam and I have enjoyed working on together on weekends and at nights after the kids go to bed.
