Back towards the middle of August Adam was able to take a week long backpacking trip to the Wind Rivers with his family. The kids and I had originally planned to go, but the more I talked to experienced Mom’s about it, the more I became convinced that maybe the kids and I shouldn’t go. From having to tie up food and diapers in trees every night because of the bears, to trying to figure out how to warm up bottles in the fire every 4 hours for Dawson, to keeping kids entertained and out of mischief while Ad is backpacking, to making sure the kids stayed warm in freezing temperatures.
Plus because you have to pack pack everything in, that in itself was going to be somewhat challenging, and although we could canoe over a lot of the items, I knew we would have to bring a TON of stuff for the 3 boys. I was REALLY disappointed when I was finally talked out of going only because I’ve literally been waiting for about 4 years now to be able to go. Adam’s’ family goes every year, but I’ve either been pregnant or just had a brand new baby most years and therefore have been unable to attend. So I was really excited this year to finally have my chance. However, I knew the decision to stay was probably the right one, so I tried to make the best of it. The kids and I planned fun things to do everyday, and my WONDERFUL Mom even came down for 2 of the nights to help me! (Thanks again Mom, I love you!)
Adam as usual had a BLAST up at the Winds. Adams brother Dean and his family all went up along with Mum and Smurf and so Adam was able to spend lots of time with people we love! Adam continued tradition and jumped in the ice cold freezing lake, and I’m sure took some time to Roll large Rocks down hills. This year Ad also took off by himself and apparently found one of the coolest things he’s seen in his life. Some sort of natural waters slide type of rock formation thingy ma-bobber (I’m not sure exactly how to explain it) but Adam said it really was an amazingly cool thing to find, and wants to take me up to see it someday. Anyway Ad didn’t get any pictures while he was up at the winds, so I had to steal most of these from Smurf and Franny. (Hope you both don’t mind).
Oh, Sarah! I'm so sorry you missed out on the adventure. I know it's hard for you to turn down a vacation. I hope Adam had a wonderful time with his family. You're such a wonderful supportive wife!
