Memorial Day weekend we had originally planned to go up to the Felix Cabin in Logan Canyon, but by the time we got around to booking the cabin, it was already scheduled. Therefore we had to re-vamp plans a little. We decided since we had been SO busy most of the weekends in May that it might be nice just to have a relaxing weekend at home for once and be able to work on some much needed projects. So that is just what we did. Friday we totally had a veg out night, and after a lovely dinner of Teriyaki Salmon, rice, steamed broccoli and yellow squash, and strawberry salad with sugared pecans we put the kids to bed and had a Lord of the Rings movie marathon night! đ We only got through 1.5 of the 3 movies before falling asleep though so we didn’t quite make our goal.
Saturday we got up and had breakfast and then hung out most of the morning watching cartoons, playing xbox, and doing house work. Adam took off in the afternoon to go and install some A/C units in our Provo rental, while I caught up on my 6 advisors homework and conference call I had missed. Then that evening we went up to Mum and Smurfs for a dinner and games night. Mum made some super yummy ribs and veggies, and I brought flakey bisquits and strawberry pecan salad. Then Smurf was kind enough to download the movie Superman for us (the original one) on Netflix so that Branson and I could watch it. I’ve been wanting to for months now since Brans has a superman action figure, but has never actually seen the movie and really doesn’t even know who or what Superman does. So we popped some popcorn and watched it. Branson REALLY liked it and has been pretending to be Superman ever since.
Sunday was also a lovely day and we were able to have our good friend Kevin Beecher and his two kids Anessa and Paxton visiting (WE SO MISSED YOU JANA!) We were lucky enough to convince them to have dinner with us, which consisted of crockpot roast potatoes and carrots, mashed taters and gravy, corn, steamed broccoli and squash, french bread, and strawberry salad (Can you tell I love the stuff?) Then we had hot brownies with melted peanut butter chips and icecream for dessert.
Kevin filled us in on all the Beecher happenings and then we had our other awsome friends Layne and Bekah Smith and their two kids come by the house as well. Layne, Kevin, and Adam were all roomates back in the day and all of them got married within 3 months of each other. It was so fun reminiscing and we even figured out how these three connected and became roomates. It was quite the story. Layne and Adam meet. Layne and Kevin meet. Layne and Kevin room together. Adam and Kevin meet. Adam and Layne room together. Layne and Kevin room again together. Or something along those lines. It was a VERY complicated triangle of relationships that spun over several years. My head is still spinning trying to figure it all out, but it really was so fun to learn about. We also talked about early days of dating and what we all met our spouses and such.
Kevin ended up taking off around 8:00 pm when his kids were DONE and needing their beds, but we were able to entice Layne and Bekah to stay for a SLEEPOVER! Yeah! We had a great time playing Guitine and Killer Bunnies while eating Salt and Vinegar chips, Reeces, Hershey’s Bliss chocolates, Hawaiin Macadamian nut chocolates, Jerky, and other snacks, and stayed up until about midnight. I do have to mention though that it was my BEST Killer Bunnies game EVER! I actually had 8 bunnies (would have had 9 but I traded Adam a bunny for a card that would kill a deadly virus) and was able to play two cards each round and have a VERY fun time killing everyone elses bunnies. It was a totally sweet game. Not only that, but I just so happened to have the winning bunny too! (Even though others had more bunnies than me). It was absolutely thrilling since I can count on one hand how many games I’ve actually WON a game in the last 5 years! đ

Monday we had orange rolls, cinnamon rolls, and cereal for breakfast and then after saying a fond farewell to our friends we got started on some fun projects. The biggest one was to wash all 26 of the screens in our house. It was QUITE the task and involved taking them all out of the windows, spraying them down with some special formula I found online. Then scrubbing them down using a brush with soapy water (NOTE: Wash Both sides of screens when doing this). It literally took us MOST of the day and we ended up having to re-do almost all the screens when we realized that only one side actually got clean. Rats! Then because we had all the screens out, we figured we’d better wash all the windows while we were at it before putting all the screens back in. So it really made for a long day. However, we kept on going and got our C/O Detectors put in, our door bell all hooked up, and our food storage put down in our basement where it wouldn’t melt (it was in our garage which is getting mighty toasty on warm summer days). It was great to get so many projects taken care of. That evening we opted to BBQ up some hot dogs and have a picnic on the front lawn for dinner, and then we had FHE and put the kids to bed.
We ended the evening by continuing our Lord of the Rings marathon night and finished up the last of “the fellowship of the ring,” and then watched “Return of the King.” Sleep finally found us at 1:00 am after all was watched and done. All in all it was a great weekend. Hope ya all had a great one as well!
