Ponta Das Quatro Ribeiras – Terceira Azores

Another one of my all time favorite places that we visited while on Terceira was Ponta Das Quatro Ribeiras which in Portuguese means “Tip of the Four Streams.” From the parking lot you can’t see too much. Just a small view of the beach which didn’t look that much different from all the other rocky beaches we’d seen. So I almost didn’t do further and let that small view of the beach be my experience here, since Adam didn’t want to walk down with me.  But I decided that I was only going to be in Terceira once so I’d better make the most of it! So I walked down the steps to the beach and boy oh boy was I glad! This place was soooo cool! And beautiful!

Again the Azorean people had taken a beautiful natural landmark and made it accessible to people by making natural water holes for people to swim in and explore. This place was just awesome!

You cannot tell in most of these pictures but the waves were HUGE! Probably some of the biggest I’ve seen and they were awesome to watch break on the rocks and spray foam in the air!

I ended up sitting for awhile watching the waves and wishing my honey were with me and was super happy when Adam did end up coming down and joining me! I knew he would love this place too!

Isn’t it neat how they make walkways amidst the rocks? I thought it was genius! I am sure this is a super hot spot for beach goers in the summer! But we loved once again having the whole place to ourselves! October is the time to go! 🙂

There was even a man made waterfall! Nice!

We ended up spending the good part of an hour at Quatro Ribeiras and then continued our drive. We stopped at the top to get a different view of where we’d just been.

Adam once again stayed in the car while I took pictures.

Then we started driving through town in search of lunch! It was almost 3:00 and both of us were starving! But there were more cool places to see so we kept taking little detours to see them!

This place was called Ponta Das Biscoitos and had been highly recommended to us, but we didn’t know that we were actually there. If we had driven just a little to the right we would have seen the big attraction, but instead we just saw the rocky beach area. Later in our trip we came back and tried finding this place, and couldn’t believe we’d been so close and missed it. Those pictures are coming later! 😉
