If I had to choose just one place that I absolutely loved during our Azores trip, Ponta Do Misterio (meaning Point of Mystery) would definitely be on the list! It was seriously AMAZING! The blue color of the water, the black basalt rock columns, the ruggedness of the rocks, the sound of the waves hitting the inlet. It was all just so awesome! But unfortunately pictures never do these incredible places justice! But they will just have to do.
These first pics are just some I took while we were traveling through the nearby towns.
Then we started to get closer to the beach areas. But still nothing we hadn’t seen before.
Pretty, but again – nothing new. Until we started hiking a litter further…
I spy Adam! Do you? Teeny tiny red dot!
Then as we turned the corner we started to see some of this!
And this! Holy Cow! That is cool!
The blue water, the black basalt, the inlet! ahhhh it was all so awesome! Do you spy Adam again in the right corner? Little red dot? Gives you an idea how huge this thing was!
I was definitely in my happy place here!
I couldn’t stop taking pictures! But they just don’t do this place justice! The sound of the waves was beyond words! Adam and I could have stayed here all day watching and listening to those waves!
This apparently was also a great fishing spot!
Funny story about this fish! I kept seeing little guys like this laying out on the rocks dying near the fisherman. It made my heart sad to see them suffering but I didn’t know if the fisherman were using them for bait or something, so I asked one of the fisherman if I could throw him in the water. I think the fisherman could tell I was concerned about the fish so he said yes. But then he explained that they use them to feed the seagulls. Ahhh! But why are they feeding seagulls? Can’t they fish for themselves? Anyway, it was a memory I wanted to record.
Isn’t the green on those lava rocks pretty? I so loved this place!
What an amazing world Heavenly Father created for us!
