Renting a Car, Exploring the Island, Low Salt Bay, and The Island of Goats – Terceira Azores

On Saturday we decided to rent a smart car, which was hilarious considering how big Adam and I are, and how tiny it is! But we didn’t really care about size, we just wanted to be able to explore the island at our own pace – so it was perfect for our needs. We were so excited to finally wake up to a beautiful sunny day too! After two days of rain it was a welcomed surprise! Here is the view from our hotel that morning!

The rental car company then came to pick us up and took us a few miles away to their little shop to pick up our car. It took us about 30 minutes of filing out paperwork and writing down all the “damage” on the car, but eventually we got off on our way! Our first destination was to go and see the statue of the bulls just outside the city! Pretty cool! And right in the middle of the street!

Then we drove along the south side of the island getting great views of the coastline!

We loved getting a better view of the islands of goats! You can actually take a boat out to see them close up, but we were good with just seeing them from afar.

If there is one thing the Azoreans are good at, it is building lots of walls to separate their property and keep their livestock contained. I couldn’t help but snatch this picture of all the many many walls you see around Terceira.

This place is called Baia da Salga or Low Salt Bay and I thought it was amazing! The Azoreans do a great job taking natural landmarks and making them usable for their people. I loved how they created a natural pool by cementing in some paths and walkways. I bet this place is a hit in the summer!

But we kinda liked having it all to ourselves! 😉

Adam in our cute little smart car! His challenge for the day was trying to change into his swim clothes in that tiny thing! ha ha!

He was brave and decided to swim even though it was only 60 degrees outside!
Who knows how cold the water was!
