Cousin Time at Lake Powell

Friday was a pretty low key day for us once we got the houseboat set up. We took naps, watched movies, played in the sand and just hung out on the houseboat waiting for the rest of the family to arrive. Adam, Jake, & Liesa all had to work Friday and then Stacey and Jake had Kylie’s volleyball tournament that night as well that they couldn’t miss. So we didn’t end up seeing everyone until late Friday night! Adam ended up riding down with Liesa, Ali, Jasmine, Kyle, Trinity, Collin, Kollin, and Tyler (Ali’s boyfriend) in their big suburban but they got delayed when they witnessed a really terrible fatal accident. Apparently two hot doggers on motorcycles went whipping by them standing up on their bikes on the I-15 near Spanish Fork and one of them lost control of the bike and ended up laying the bike down and rolling down the freeway repeatedly without a helmet on. Adam said it was one of the most sickening sights of his life. They immediately pulled over and called 911 and waited for the police to arrive. They are pretty sure the girl was pronounced dead upon arrival. So sad! They were just grateful the bike hadn’t hit them (the girl was literally just feet away from them when the accident occurred) and they swerved to miss the bike. Had the bike hit them there could have easily been more than just one fatality that day. It was so scary to think about! Especially with 9 passengers in the suburban! Yikes.
But luckily the rest of the drive went smoothly and they arrived at Lake Powell that evening safe and sound. We spent that evening playing a new game Luke introduced us to called “Poop on you” where each person gets a face card and 5 pieces of candy (you can also use poker chips or anything else you have on hand). The object of the game is NOT to be the person with the lowest number card as you have to give up one of your pieces of candy if you are. So on your turn you can either “keep” your card (if its high) or “trade” your card with the person sitting on your left and hope their card is higher than yours. They have no choice, they have to trade. However, if they happen to have gotten a King then they don’t have to trade and can say “Poop on you!” and you have to keep your low card. The last person to play can either trade a card with the deck or keep the card they have. Its super fun and we had a great time playing!
We ended up staying up pretty late playing that night, and then finally got kids to bed around midnight. Most of the kids ended up sleeping upstairs on the deck while the adults stayed in the houseboat. Mom got the back bedroom, Luke and Liesa took the master, while Adam and I took the living room pull out couch. It was great!
The next morning (Saturday) Jake and Stacey arrived after breakfast, which brought a lot of squeals of delight from kids who couldn’t wait to have the rest of their cousins come! Its so fun to see how much these kids enjoy each other! I love seeing what great friends they are all and how well they play together. Makes a Mamma’s heart happy! 🙂

For the most part we all just hung out at the houseboat, took hikes, played in the mud, had water fights, talked, and enjoyed each other’s company. But we also got in a little boating as well later that afternoon. Jake brought his boat which made it so that all of us could go out exploring together. Here’s a pic of Luke with his boat full of family! Love these peeps!

And here are the rest of us on Jakes boat. 🙂

Lukes houseboat is behind us on the right.
Oh how we love Lake Powell!
