The last leg of our journey was to hike around the lower Green River Lake (which is just over 2 miles) and then to drive 6 hours back home. We didn’t end up getting home until around 9:15 pm and Mum and Smurf were so worried when they hadn’t heard from us by 3pm that they had called the Pinedale police! Whoops! I had wanted to try to be out of the canyon by 1:00 but fishing had taken much longer than expected so we didn’t get out until 3:30. We loved calling and talking to Mum and Smurf and the kids the moment we got back in cell phone range though and easing all their fears.
We had perfect weather as we hiked out and some of the best scenery you could ask for!
I just had to get a shot of Adam’s pack because he was super man and carried both tents, all our leftover food, his sleeping bag, and a sleeping pad. A whopping 70 lbs total! My hero!
And just in case you don’t think we didn’t see any wild life, here is a wild hen! We also saw 3 bald eagles, and lots of moose tracks! đ
We had to laugh because earlier in the day Harry asked us why they call this lake Green River Lake.
I think he got his question answered.
The boys favorite thing to do while we hiked was to stop at every stream and spring to fill up water bottles and then put Crystal light in them. They tasted so good!
And finally we made it back to the other side of the lake! The view was breathtaking!
We dropped all our packs on this picnic table and then Adam went to get the car while I took pictures and the kids eat snacks. Then we all changed into clean clothes, put on comfy shoes or flip flops, and then headed out. It was such a magical wonderful trip and we all can’t wait until next year!
How we do potty breaks when we are in the middle of no-where!
I also have to include that I did get pulled over this trip for going 82 in a 70. Whoops! I think the officer took pity on me though when I told him we were all exhausted from our 4 day backpacking trip and just trying to get home as quickly as possible. I think he could see the dust on our car and exhaustion in our eyes, so he just gave me a warning and told me to drive safely! We felt very grateful for his kindness!
I loved driving and getting to see this sunset as I went! So pretty!
All in all it was an absolutely wonderful trip where we made some amazing and precious memories with our boys and were able to be filled by nature! We are so grateful for a loving Heavenly Father and Savior for creating such a beautiful world for us, and grateful for Mum and Smurf who made the trip possible. Thank you, thank you for watching Jamis and Ady for us so I could go! It had been 6 years since I’d been able to backpack in and not just stay at the end of the lake with babies and it was a real treat for me. I’m over the moon in love with the Wind Rivers!
