Little Cotton Wood Canyon & Texas Roadhouse

This past August 24th my wonderful mother-in-law Mumsie turned 79! I am having a hard time believing she is really that old because she still looks and acts like she’s 50! She’s such an amazing woman and a blessing in our lives! Oh how we love and adore her!
For her birthday she just had a few wishes. 1) To go and ride the Tram to the top of Little Cotton Wood Canyon, and 2) To have her family join her at the Texas Roadhouse for dinner. I was all in! Adam unfortunately had to work for the canyon part of her birthday, but Ady and I were able to go up and had a great time! We were especially happy when Mumsie chose to go to KFC for her birthday lunch since that is one of my favorite places to go, but I rarely get to eat there since Adam isn’t a big fried chicken fan. So Ady and I had a fun time ordering whatever we wanted from the menu and filling our tummies with fried chicken goodness! Yum!
From there we headed up the canyon and met up with Lisel and Olive who also were able to join us on Mumsie’s birthday adventure! Yay! It was fun getting to spend the afternoon together! Funny enough in all my years living in Utah I have never once seen the Cotton Wood Canyon in the summer. In fact I don’t even know that I’ve ever really seen them in the winter either because I had no idea just how grand the mountains were up there or that they were made up of so much granite! It was as if I was seeing them for the first time even though I’ve been skiing up the canyon multiple times.  I just had no idea that the canyon was so beautiful! I loved snapping pictures as we drove up.

We ended up going to Snow Bird to catch the Tram which was around $20 per person. Luckily Ady was free for me though. I love this shot of Mum and Smurf and Ady by this cute cottage. Snow Bird was getting ready for Oktober Fest and had fun little houses like this all over.

We lucked out too because our Tram wasn’t set to leave until 1:30 and we had a 25 minute wait, but the big boss man was in town and wanted a lift up to the top, so they let us on early! Nice!

The views as we went up were breathtaking!

I loved getting in some Olive snuggle time!

Once we reached the top I couldn’t help but snap these awesome 360 degree views! Amazing!

I was seriously in Heaven being up here and could feel my love bucket being filled by the beauty!

We ended up spending about 30-45 minutes at the top and then once we’d seen what we wanted and taken enough pictures we took the Tram back down. We had some time to kill before dinner though so we just hung out near the restaurants and let Ady play in the water. She ended up SOAKED, but sure had fun!

On the way back I unfortunately started feeling car sick (too much fried chicken maybe?) and really had to pay close attention to the road to keep myself from getting too queasy. It helped me remember why I do all the driving in our family though. Sometimes I forget how car sick I get up canyons!

Then at 4:00 pm we met Adam and the kids and Parris and Lori, Tarre and Court, and Dean and Janet at the Texas Roadhouse for Mumsie’s birthday dinner! Unfortunately we ended up having to get our food to go so we could leave by 5pm to get back to Payson where I needed to change and then drive over to Lehi for my big 20 year HS reunion. But it was fun to have a little time to catch up with everyone before we left.

We sure are grateful for Mumsie and so glad that she was born 79 years ago. She has been such an example to us of kindness, compassion, thoughtfulness, and love over the years and is such a blessing in our lives! We love you Mumsie! To the Moon and back! Happy 79th Birthday!
