Once Adam was done working for the day we headed back up to Yosemite to spend the evening exploring. Our first stop was a 2 mile round trip hike up to Lukens lake. There we had dinner (some tuna fish sandwiches I’d made up beforehand with fruit and chips) and then the kids played in the water for a bit while Adam and Jamis and I rested in the shade. It was a beautiful drive and hike through some really gorgeous country!
This cool rock formation is right at the West entrance of Yosemite National park. We thought it was so cool to get to drive through it.
We saw several waterfalls as we drove.
And lots of granite mountains!
We even saw a few ponds along the way.
And eventually we made it to the tail head of Lukens lake (after an almost 2 hour drive!)
We took up all our swim stuff expecting that the kids would want to play in the water.
Ady loved climbing on these big tree trunks!
And here Dawson is with what we referred to as the “butt tree!” ha ha!
Harry had a bit of melt down on the hike which we later discovered was because Adam had asked him to do something earlier that day that he felt should have been done by someone else since he’d been helping with a lot of other things. I’m not sure why it hit him on the hike and he got upset over it then, but he ended up being pretty put out for awhile. Eventually he told us what was wrong and we talked through it. And we agreed that we do ask Harry to help out a lot. He’s one of more obedient children and so we know it will usually get done if we ask him. But we probably do take advantage of that fact and told him we’d try to be better.
We loved our little picnic spot we found in the forest!
Bad lighting, but I love these cute kids of mine! and Adam of course!
It didn’t take these two long to get their feet wet in the lake! But they didn’t end up lasting long because the lake was really cold!
Then it was time to get back on the trail!
Dawson came up with a creative way to carry his life jacket so that he could stay bundled up in his towel! 😉
Next up! Half Dome and Yosemite Village!
