Thursday July 7th was our “drive the Oregon Coast Day” where we planned to drive from Newport to Sea Side with frequent stops along the way to see as many of the sights as we could. It was only a 3 hour drive to go from one place to the other, but because of all the sight seeing detours we took, it ended up taking us the greater part of the day.
Our first stop was to the Yaquina Head Outstanding Natural Area, which we actually were able to use our National Parks Pass to get into for free with. Saweet! This place was beautiful and like a kids aquarium because there was so much sea life to find and see.
They let you walk down into the area you see below which during low tide is chuck full of tide pools where you can see lots of sea creatures like crabs, muscles, and sea-urchants.
Here is a better shot of the tide pools the kids got to explore. This place was seriously awesome and a great hands on experience for everyone.
Lest you think we were super brave, this fella was actually dead when we found him sitting upside down in the water. Poor fella.
We were excited because by the time we hiked back up to our car the fog had cleared enough that you could see the coast! So pretty!
This ended up being one of our very favorite stops of the day!
