Klamath Falls, Oregon

On day 2 of our 12 day vacation, the plan was to head out for the next leg of our trip. That of going to to Klamath Falls Oregon. Funny enough, in all our travels, neither Adam or I have never been to Oregon, so we were both pretty excited about seeing it. Unfortunately at first it was nothing like we thought it would be, and really just consisted of driving through some pretty barren land. But the closer we got to Klamath the more Oregon started looking like the lush green place full of trees that we were expecting. At first Oregon just seemed to be a lot of basalt rock and dessert.

Later it became more forested with lakes and streams. This is where we stopped for lunch to make sandwiches off the side of the road.

Then around 2 pm we were able to check into this cute little house in Klamath that we had rented for 2 nights with Cam and Erin. It slept all 13 of us comfortably with its 5 bedrooms, and had an awesome yard for the kids to play in, including a tree swing, huge lawn area (where we played football and Mother May I) as well as a basketball pad, and fish pond! Brans kept saying it would be his dream house if only it had a theater room! 😉

We ended up hanging out at the house for a few hours where Jamis and I were able to get in some much needed naps, and then we headed out for dinner. We’d hoped to go to a Thai restaurant on main street that was the #1 rated restaurant in the area, but because it was the 4th of July, it was closed. As was almost every other restaurant in town.

We ended up deciding to try out the fair grounds to see if they had any food vendors, and sure enough they did! We may not have gotten to eat at the #1 rated Thai place, but we did end up getting Thai food which was great! We got two large plates and ate them out on the grass while the kids played on bouncy houses.

They also had a local band performing which was fun to listen to.

From there we drove over to some of Klamath Falls fun parks to see if we couldn’t find a good place for the kids to play. Cam and Erin were still a few hours out so we had some time to kill. We loved getting to see some rivers and lakes as we went.

We ended up at a park just outside of town near the lake that had a great playground for the kids and shallow water to play in.

And the kids loved the unique playground equipment. This particular piece was like an upside down merry go round that spun in circles. But you had to climb up pretty high to get on it. You could tell it had been built with adventurous kids in mind! And my boys loved it! And Harry made a friend while playing on it whom he hung out with for the hour we were there.

The park also had a big fake rock the kids could climb on, so Adam gave them each some climbing lessons.

While the kids played I talked to some other Moms – one of which looked Indian. But in the end she ended up being from Maldives which is an amazing island near Sri Lanka and one of India’s favorite places to honeymoon. It is one beautiful place! None of us could understand why the lady would want to move to America when she lived in such a paradise, but her answer was, “There are so many more opportunities here in the U.S. for my children.” Apparently your only options for employment in the Maldives is either tourism or fishing.
Later we went and spent some time playing in the water.

The rest of the evening we spent back at the Klamath house where we played outside, watched TV, and vegged waiting for our cousins to arrive. They ended up not getting in until super late though, so we put our kids to bed. Adam ended up getting Brans and Harry up around 10 pm though (11 pm Utah time) to take them to meet their cousins at the fair grounds where Klamath City was having a big fireworks show for the 4th of July. Adam met Cam and Erin there and ended up staying until about midnight.
