Team Hike up American Fork Canyon

This week Adam has had one of his wonderful teammates named Kate in town from San Jose, and also recently hired a new guy on his team name Mitch. He thought it would be fun to put together a team activity for them all to get to know each other better, and settled on hiking up American Fork Canyon to Silver Lake.
Because I grew up in Lehi and Alpine, American Fork Canyon just happens to be one of my most favorite places in the world and was like my back yard growing up so Adam was kind enough to invite me and the kids along for his team activity as well. I was so glad!
We stopped at Jimmy Johns and Subway to grab some subs for dinner and then parked at Silver Lake Flat to start our hike up to Silver Lake. I couldn’t believe how beautiful the drive up the canyon was this time of year, and couldn’t help but keep pulling over for pictures! The view just kept getting more and more spectacular the further up we went. I was loving every minute of it!

And this is Silver Lake Flats. I used to come up here with friends (the Green brothers) to roast hot dogs and marshmallows around the campfire. Such good memories!

I was completely in love with the view!

Cute Ady picked me some lovely flowers as we hiked.

We started heading up American Fork Canyon, but then it takes awhile to drive up, park and get on the trail, but by 5:30 the kids were starving so we stopped and had our subs, chips, cookies, and fruit on a rock near the river.

We loved the wild flowers all over!

This is Kate. I had such a great time learning more about her. She’s originally from Pennsylvania and grew up in a very Christian family. She did volunteer work with the youth for 10 years, and is just an outstanding lady. I really enjoyed getting to know her. She said that for their next team activity she thought it would be fun to do some white water rafting. That is my kind of girl! 🙂

This is Mitch, Adam’s new hire who is such an awesome guy too! He’s the last kid in a family of six and grew up in Canada. He is an avid outdoors-man, served an LDS mission in Finland. I loved picking his brain about cool hikes hes’ been on and about all his travels. Several of the places he’s been to are now on my bucket list including hiking the narrows from the top down and backpacking in Havasupi and the Coyote Gulch. Adam told me later that Mitch goes up and hikes up to the Timp cave just for fun a few times a week! Needless to say we had a great time with Mitch and I loved getting to know him better as well. What great people Adam works with!

I love this shot of Jamis who was getting antsy being in the carrier and wanted to get out. He somehow managed to turn himself completely around so he could see me and hopefully convince me to come and save him! ha ha! He did win in the end though and Adam ended up caring him in his arms for the last leg of the hike.

We saw three different waterfalls as we hiked up, but this one behind Adam was my favorite!

Because the hike was so far up in the mountains we had to take a LOT of rests (mostly for me) because the further up we went the harder it was for me to breath. I felt like my heart was going to pop right out of my chest and had to stop frequently to allow my heart to calm down a bit. Ady and Daws also needed frequent stops as well, but did awesome on the hike especially considering it was 4.4 miles round trip.
