Spanish Fork Reservoir

This last week the kids and I were able to go and visit the Spanish Fork Reservoir just south of Spanish Fork Canyon. We were introduced to this fun place a few years after we moved to Payson and just absolutely love it. Its the perfect place to spend the day playing in the water for a few hours. Plus we love that its free and close to home!
We decided to take our blow up double tube so that we could take it across the reservoir which ended up being harder than it looked. We mostly just paddled in circles until we figured out it just worked best to have me do all the kicking! ha ha! Brans wanted to be a tough boy though and decided to swim the length of the reservoir himself (with a life jacket on at Mom’s request). Dawson then got brave and attempted to do the same thing, but after a few minutes came back to hang out with us on the tube. It was a fun little adventure, but sure COLD! You’d think we were swimming in arctic waters from the temperature of the water! Brrr!
When we got to the other side of the reservoir we decided it might be best just to walk back, but we found that getting out of the tube and onto dry land was a bigger challenge than we thought! Apparently the steep slopes of the reservoir walls are super slimy and we all just ended up slipping and falling into the water. We ended up having to paddle the tube up ON the cement walls so that we could get a foot onto a “dry” spot and jump out. Eventually we all made it out though.
Harry wanted to do what he called “the man test” and decided to take the tube back the length of the reservoir to our picnic spot – and to do it all by himself. He did great and almost made it back the same time we did walking around.
We then spend the rest of the afternoon playing in the sand, eating grapes, strawberries, and cookies, and digging “swimming pools” in the ground and then filling them up with water. Brans and Harry also took a few more turns out on the tube to look for fish. It was sure a fun afternoon spent with the kids!

After our adventures at the reservoir, I thought it would be fun to surprise the kids with snow cones (which is one of my favorite childhood memories) and so we stopped at the snow shack over by Smiths in Payson. Brans and Dawsn split a cherry/raspberry snow cone, while Ady and Harry split a grape one.

We sure are loving these carefree summer days!
