The rest of the afternoon while camping at the Wedge was more low key and consisted of going to see the dinosaur footprint and then heading back to camp for homemade quizno sandwiches for lunch. Then Adam and Katie and Eks took most of the kids on a short drive around the area while Harry and I stayed back at camp for naps. They were gone about an hour and then Katie and Eks had the brilliant idea of watching each other’s kids so the adults could have a little “couples time.” Katie and Eks ended up going hiking first while we watched their kids, and then when they got back Adam and I were able to do a 30 minute hike as well. It was fun to be able to go at a faster pace and get up high where we had great views of the area. Below are some pictures of our day.
Dinosaur footprint!
Harry pretending to be an elk! Nice rack buddy!
Our tent trailer seemed to be the favorite place for the kids to hang out. They spent a lot of time in here playing games!
Dawson on the other hand we’ve decided is not much of a camper. He really didn’t care for being dirty or playing in the dirt, and preferred to be held pretty much the whole time we were camping, which unfortunately isn’t really possible since there is so much more prep work when camping. So he too ended up spending lots of time in the trailer so Adam and I could get stuff done. And he spent a good deal of our trip crying. Poor fella! He also refused to nap most of our trip (with the exception of car rides) so he was a little extra grumpy while camping too. He and I both had the grumpy monster hit us! Both of us from lack of sleep! But here is one of the rare moments when he was actually pretty happy!
These next few pictures are of the hike Adam and I were able to take just the two of us. See our cute little camp spot down below? Its so tiny!
Here’s a better close up shot.
Loved the view of these mountains from a little higher up.
Our goal was to get to the top of these cliffs, but we ended up not being able to find a safe way. Oh well. It was still awesome getting to hike!
This kind of stuff just makes me mad! Seriously? We don’t care that you love Michael. Leave our beautiful Wedge the way you found it!
Isn’t the Wedge just gorgeous? I so love it here!
This picture comes with a little story. See that red and blue tent down below? While Adam and I were hiking a little storm came through and it actually started raining a bit. With the storm came some wind which actually blew our little shade tent from right in front of our trailer to clear over to the MAIN road in the top left corner of the picture. ha ha!
From our aerial view we were able to see both Dawson and Eks running like mad men to get to the tent but it just kept rolling and blowing away. So funny! But thankfully they did end up rescuing our little shade tent in the end. Thanks guys! We owe you one!
Another fun story is that pretty much the second we arrived at our camp site, the little boys in our group started digging holes. I don’t know what it is about boys and digging, but they sure loved it. Not only that, but the Dad’s even started to help too! So by the end of our trip we had some pretty good sized holes. The men weren’t sure what to do with the holes when we left, but ended up coming up with a grand plan. That coming up next! But I love this shot of my three little boys playing in the holes. Mostly we just liked that the hole Jamis is in kept him contained for a minute so we could get dinner going! 🙂
