Our next day in Pennsylvania was pretty chill and just consisted of hitting up another pool at our resort and then a family service project where we visited cemeteries and took pictures of gravestones to help people find their ancestors. It was actually really fun and we surprisingly found an Egbert name while taking pictures and discovered it was one of Adams 5th cousins 4 times removed! Nice!
We then headed home for an early Father’s Day dinner where Dawson and I made pot roast, mashed potatoes, carrots, green beans, and corn on the cob to celebrate Adam since we knew we’d be in a hotel on the real Father’s Day without access to a kitchen.
The rest of the night we spent packing up as we had an early start the next day to New York City!!! We were so excited!
The next morning we drove about 1.5 hours to Staton island and then took a ferry to Manhattan where we saw the Statue of Liberty and explored Battery park and then tried some NY street food including hot dogs, Philly cheesesteak, bacon ranch fries, and mango smoothie.
We then went and saw ground zero which was a really solemn sacred experience. Seeing all the names of all those who died when the twin towers were hit…seeing all the rescuers who also gave their lives trying to save them. Thinking of that horrific day. It was a lot to
take in.
We tried going to the 9/11 memorial museum, but unfortunately it was closed, so we walked around a bit and saw some of the other sights and then Adam saw a pizza place and wanted to try NY pizza too. It was soooo good and we got some cheesecake and red velvet cake ti try too! 😂
We then took the subway to time square where both Ady and Adam were asked to be part of an acrobatic street performance (videos included). 😱 So funny!
We then went to the M&M store, Line friends store, and then Paris Baguette which had been recommended by one of Branson’s friends to have the most amazing pastries. We got two to share, a mango one and fruit one, since Adam had actually booked us a reservation at a sushi place for dinner. Do you see a theme here? New York for Adam was all about the food! 😂
We then took the kids to their first broadway which after doing a family vote ended up being Harry Potter. It was SO good. The special effects were incredible! It was like a magic show half the time and a comedy the other half, but all the kids loved it!
We then had to walk to the subway, take the subway to the ferry, take the ferry back to staton island, and then drive to our hotel in Newark. We didn’t get home until 12:30 am, but had a fabulous memorable day! ❤️
