Chinese Lunch, & Visiting the Cave and Basin Historic Center

After our trip up Sulphur Mountain we were all pretty famished and so we hit up a local Chinese restaurant in downtown Banff.  We were pretty sure we’d picked a great place when everyone in the restaurant was Asian except us.  ha ha!  Adam was feeling a bit adventurous too and decided to order some new fun foods to try.  So we had ginger chicken, some dumpling soup, and a few other things we’d never tried.  They were all delicious and not a single left over was to be had after!

From there we headed over to the Cave and Basin Historic Site, where we got to learn how and when Banff became a National park (I think it was originally due to this cave and basin if I remember right).  They gave the kids booklets when we first arrived and they had fun learning new things, coloring, and finding things around the museum. Definitely was a fun stop for the kids!

Here they are getting a chance to feel the warm temperatures of the water in the basin.  They wouldn’t let you touch the water once you were in the cave or near the springs, but would let you here.

Entrance to the cave!

After seeing the cave, they had a museum you could walk through.  The kids loved this old car they were allowed to play in!

Another favorite was this awesome game of Snails and Snakes (similar to shutes and ladders) with giant dice to throw around.  The kids loved playing this with Adam.

Then we got to head out to see the hot springs.

A worker told us that the brown looking stuff growing on top is actually bacteria.
Then we got to go into what I would describe as the pioneer section of the museum where we got to learn how the original settlers of Banff lived.

It was a great activity for the kids!
