Saturday morning (August 8th) it was head back to Banff day, and so we spent most of the morning breaking camp (which usually takes 2 hours but we got it done in 1.5. Yay!) We were all pretty excited because it was an absolutely BEAUTIFUL day which meant that we would get to see the Icefields Parkway in all its glory! (aka without cloud cover and mist). This drive was after-all one of the best rated attractions in Banff and Jasper. So it made us happy to know we’d get to see more than just the bottom of those big tall beautiful mountains! And to say we were all in Glacier heaven would be an understatement. The drive was simply AMAZING!!! But I’ll let the photos speak for themselves. Again some of them may be blurry or low quality because we took most of these from out the car window!
There were glaciers everywhere!
Tangle Creek Falls (which apparently I had completely missed the first time we drove through!)
We ended up stopping at the Icefields visitors center and had originally planned to buy tickets to go up to the icefields (which was going to cost our family almost $200), but when we found out they had a free option where we could just drive to the lower part of the icefields and then hike up, we opted for that. We DIDN’T get to walk on the icefields with that option, but with 5 small kids – we were totally okay with that.
The kids had fun finding rocks and statues to climb on.
Up next, our hike up to the icefield.
