9 Hour Drive to Kotchi Kerela

As I mentioned in an earlier post, one of the things we have come to discover is that everything in India takes longer.  On this particular day we were supposed to have a 6-7 hour drive ahead of us, but unfortunately for us, that 6-7 hour drive ended up taking more than 9!  Yikes!  The good news about it though, was that we got to see some pretty cool things.  Like the below picture for instances.  How many people get to say they’ve had an elephant walking next to them on the highway?  So cool!

We also got to see these beautiful tea plantations all over as well.  I wish more of my pictures had turned out, but unfortunately because I was taking them from a moving car, most of them are dreadfully blurry!
Darn it all!

I didn’t used to be a big shopper in the U.S., but I have to admit that some of these Indian souvenir shops just call to me! 🙂

I had to laugh as at one point during our travels, Harry became very worried that Dawson was trying to “kiss him in his sleep.”  That kiss is a crackup!

This was also the day that we had to take a road from the very tippy toppity of a mountain all the way back down into the valley.  Talk about hair pin central and we ended up having all 4 kids throw up that day!  Luckily I had brought those blue throw up bags you get from hospitals, and we ended up using those and re-using those over and over and over during our week long vacation because of how often our kids got car sick.  The total amount of times throwing up ended up being 15!  FIFTEEN times in one week.  If I remember right, Branson held the record at 6 times, then Ady came in at a close second with 4.  Then Dawson and I tied for 2 times each, and Harry luckily held out with just one time throwing up.  The real winner here though was Adam who didn’t even throw up once!  Of course he was also always in the front seat (until I started making him switch the boys when they starting feeling sick).  But still, throwing up 15 times in one week due to carsickness is pretty impressive!  But its something I hope we never have to go through again!  The good news?  All the kids for the most part were able to get to the throw up bags in time so we only ended up with one nasty mess the whole trip.  Now thats a tender mercy right there!

Some of the views as we went over the mountains. Most of the time though we were in the clouds and unable to get a clear shot.

There is a much stronger Christian influence down in Kochi, so we started to see more Catholic and Protestant churches as we drove.

Because we all were so sick of being in the car, we for the most part only stopped to grab snacks to eat, or to use the restroom.  Since everyone else in India pee’s on walls and bushes, we figured why not!?  So this became our norm as well.  It got a little trickier for me since I’m a girl, but even I participated in this new way of traveling! 🙂

You can imagine how overjoyed we all were when we finally reached our guest house that night.  Nine hours of traveling about did us all in.  We ended up going to a seafood restaurant and GORGING ourselves at about 10 pm at night (we were all starving) and then we all went home for cold showers and BED!  Since we were by the coastline it just FELT so super sticky and hot and we were all just so grateful for A/C that night and a bed to sleep in!
