After our short stop at the Sugar Cane Factory we thought it would be fun to take the kids to a nearby bird sanctuary that Adam and I visited earlier during our visit in February. The kids loved finding new species of birds everywhere, exploring all the different paths, and trying to scope out crocodiles!
There was also quite a bit of tree climbing action in there too!
These crack me up. In Utah we carve our names into trees and rocks in India…its bamboo or cacti leaves!
This area reminds me of Sven’s “love experts!” from the movie Frozen. ha ha.
Swinging on vines with the kids! I think Tarzan had the right idea!
When we came in February Adam and I took one of these boats out on the river to see Crocs and birds, but it was pretty expensive for India (around $8 a person if I remember right), and there was no wait time. This time around though we were going during busy season and there was a huge line of locals waiting for boats. It looked like the wait would be several hours and would have cost us a lot to take our whole family, so we just opted to look around instead. Luckily, the kids didn’t really seem to notice that they missed out on the water adventure! Plus we had learned about an infant being eaten by a crocodile in February when a crocodile came up out of the water and grabbed the hand of a small baby pulling it into the water. After remembering that story I was feeling pretty good about staying on land!

They had these great platforms available where you could get up high to get a better view of the lake, birds and crocodiles. The kids loved climbing the ladders up to these things and then looking down at me with the camera.
Here you can see two crocs sun bathing out on the rocks. It doesn’t look like it from this picture, but the crocs were HUGE!
Adalynn loved resting her head on Daddys. Daddy didn’t much appreciate the dead weight!
It was super hot the day we went to the sanctuary and so we found a sprinkler that was hitting the side walk and spent a few moments getting “refreshed” by running through them. Oh how I love these simple pleasures. Other families also started joining in with us after they saw how fun it was!
Showing the kids a banana tree!
After our afternoon at the bird sanctuary we headed back into Mysore, but first stopped to take a few pictures of some rice fields, workers, and of the rice itself, since I’d never seen what a full grown plant with rice on it looked like. While stopped we were also able to see this awesome Indian car wash! You just drive right into the river and start wiping down! Totally cracked us up!

A typically rice field about to be harvested.
Two young men working on bagging up the rice.
And a little sample of what the rice plants look like before the rice is beaten out of it. Each of those little pods contains one grain of rice. So cool.
