After checking in and dropping off our luggage at the guesthouse, we all decided to change into our bathing suits, go find some lunch, and then head down to a beach we could actually swim at. We actually didn’t end up going to beach we had been recommended because it looked full of tourists, so we just opted to try a spot about 1/2 mile away, where the locals seemed to be. We had to laugh though because although there were definitely locals on the beach, it apparently was where the local LOVERS spent their time! ha ha. All along the beach you would see cute Sri Lankan couples snuggled up together kissing under an umbrella! Luckily none of the kids seemed to notice – and they were just happy as clams to go and play in the water and start playing in the sand! Sure was funny to Adam and I though! đ
See the couple under the umbrella? Yep, two little love birds sitting on a beach. K.I.S.S.I.N.G!
It didn’t stop any of us from having a good time though!
Branson loved getting buried in the sand!
Harry and I opted to build sand castle Temples though that would stand up to waves coming in! We built wall after wall to make sure that temple stayed safe!
And like usual, any local that passed by would stop and stare and point and smile. Seeing an American family with 4 kids just isn’t very common in this part of the world.
Ady eventually came over to help Harry and I with our Temple walls as well. She was a big help!
On our way home we passed this tourist shop and I laughed when I saw this advertisement and made Ad stop for a picture! Too bad we didn’t get to go and see “Adam’s Speck” but at least we got a picture of Adam with his speck! đ That will have to do. đ
We spent the rest of the day back at the guesthouse taking naps and having some down time and then that evening we took a tuk tuk into town for dinner. Sri Lanka was having a holiday of sorts that day so most of the restaurants were closed, but we did manage to find a few open and went to the one that looked the most American! I just remember we ordered a lot of salads. A potato salad, a pasta salad, a chicken salad, and then mashed potatoes. Pretty much anything that sounded American. And although it was all pretty good. It wasn’t ANYTHING like what you’d get in the states, but it filled our tummies and that was pretty much all we cared about. The restaurant was right on the beach too, and we could tell from where we were sitting that there was a big party going on – so afterwards we went out to see what was going on. Mostly it just looked like lots of people having fun, listening to music and dancing, and lots of little eating places set up for people to grab snacks at. We ended up just grabbing some ice cream, and then heading straight home for bed. We were exhausted! It was a great first day in Sri Lanka!
