Exploring Angra Do Heroismo – Azores

We arrived at our hotel just as the sun was going down, and immediately loved the view and location. It was right in the center of town and close to everything. The hotel itself was okay as it was quite small and old and wasn’t quite as nice as places we’ve stayed in the past, but it was free with our package, so we just made the most of it, and we enjoyed ourselves well enough!
We luckily were the first off our bus and one of the first into our room which meant we got to use the one elevator (that fit 2-3 people) instead of taking the stairs and so we made good time dropping off our luggage before heading out to explore the city. I told Adam that I felt like I was back on my mission in Slovenia looking out across the city at all the orange roofs and brightly colored houses! It felt as if part of me had gone home! I just love the European feel. I was loving every minute of it!

Looking down into the city square or center! Seriously we really lucked out on such a great location!

That is mount Brazil off in the distance.

We loved walking around and exploring the streets of Angra Do Heroismo (the largest city in Terceira).

We even took a troll down to the docks.

And even got to see an old fort which has since been converted into a hotel believe it or not!

This was the place you could “upgrade” to and stay at for only $140 more per night!

Adam ended up having to work all day long that first day and was on calls during our bus ride, and while checking into the hotel, and during our stroll, and even while eating dinner that night, but it was either that or have to come home a day earlier. So we opted to get his work stuff out of the way the first night so we could enjoy the rest of the trip work free.
For dinner we had an Azorean dish that was sort of like a turkey sandwhich covered in cheese with an egg on top and then in some gravy like substance that was super delicious. It came out sizzling hot and was super tasty! We both really liked it. I got boring fried chicken and french fries.
