As we were backing in our trailer though, we ended up getting stuck in the mud and were so impressed when 4 single campers (who were using the rain lodge next to us to make their food) came out in the rain without being asked to help push us out! What an awesome tender mercy! We ended up making friends with the campers and they invited us out to do a polar plunge in the lake with them! ha ha! But fortunately (for me at least since I hate cold water) we had to decline since we were still in the process of getting our tent trailer set up. The next morning we thanked them for their kindness by taking them over some hot off the grill pancakes and eggs with homemade freezer jam and maple syrup. They were so excited to have a hot breakfast, but it was us who had been blessed by their goodness.
After we got our camp set up in the rain, we all snuggled inside our cozy tent trailer for dinner while trying to get dry and get mud off all our shoes and clothes. Unfortunately though most of our meal plans fell through when we discovered all the ice in our ice chest had melted and some of our food had gone bad. We had planned to do a leftovers night but found that our potoato soup had gone bad, lunch meat for sandwhiches was bad, and our watermelon. Luckily the leftovers hunters stew and pulled pork were okay (I’m guessing they were closer to the ice) but they didn’t quite fill up our bellies so we also made some hot quesadillas and hot chocolate on our camp stove.
Afterwards we debated whether we should just stay in the trailer and play games all night until bedtime, or take advantage of the rainy whether (which my Mom calls “good traveling weather”) to drive to Jasper to get gas so we would have more time to explore the next day. We ended up deciding to make a gas run and headed up North. We did make one quick stop to Athabasca Falls though on the way – which was really pretty!
