After seeing Two Medicine we actually drove into St. Mary’s but we literally got as far as the ranger station before being told we’d have to turn around. The entire area was closed due to the fire, and so we only got to make a quick stop to the visitors center to use the bathrooms before heading out.
All I remember is that just as we pulled up to the visitors center we spilled a big cup of water which got on Adam’s phone as well as our car adapter that I was using to pump Jamis a bottle! Oh boy! So we thought we might have ruined two very important items that were somewhat crucial to our road trip. Luckily both of them dried out fairly quickly in the afternoon heat, and started working again later that day. Whew! Sure was scary there for a minute though. I also remember Dawson somehow cut his foot open while walking back to the van (and was bleeding pretty bad) and so I had to stop pumping so that I could get him a bandaid and ended up spilling half of Jamis’s bottle! Ahhh! Then when I went to open up the back of the van to get the first aid kit, all our luggage shifted and ended up falling out of our car! Seriously?
Luckily a nice young man waiting for a shuttle nearby saw me struggling and came and helped me get everything put back in my car. I was so grateful! But don’t ya just love those crazy moments of chaos that sometimes happen at random times? Geez!
But finally we were able to get on our way and eventually made our way to Many Glacier which I just LOVED! I was so wishing we had reservations to camp there that night because it was gorgeous even with the smoky haze! I told Adam I wanted to come back here and stay at their hotel overlooking the lake someday.
Swiftcurrent Lake in Many Glacier
See the hotel right on the lake? Its on my bucket-list to stay there someday with my sweetie! 🙂
The rest of the evening we spent driving by beautiful mountain ranges heading North to Canda.
We were all pretty excited when we reached the border. If you look closely you can see a line in the center of the mountains – that is the border between the U.S. and Canada. They have taken out all the trees along the border to mark whose land is whose.
Welcome to CANADA!!! The kids were ecstatic to get another stamp in their passports!
And luckily we got through border patrol fairly easily. They asked us if we had any fireworks (we had sparklers), alcohol (none) or firewood (we had a box full). They told us we could keep the fireworks as long as we were careful with them, but that we had to discard of the firewood. So we just dumped that in a bin they had and were able to be on our way. Sweet! We were all super excited to start our next adventure!
