On our 2nd day in Korean Adam wanted to take us to the Geongbokgung Palace (which is the Grand Palace) and to visit the Korean Folk museum – but unfortunately our camera battery died JUST as were were about to go into the palace so we opted to find a “battery charging station” where we could plug in briefly so that we could actually take pictures while we toured. We ended up going to see the childrens museum while our battery charged and then hit up our intended destinations afterwards. Here are a few of the pics we took right before the camera battery died.
Trying out our new “selfie stick” that attached to our camera and then promptly deciding that having other people take our pictures for us was a million times easier! đ
How we all felt after being out in the hot humid Korean air for 10 minutes
(not kidding either – it was crazy hot!)
After bribing everyone with ice cream if they smiled nicely for the camera!
We were also lucky enough to catch the changing of the guards out in front of the palace gates before my camera battery died too!
LOVE all the bright colors and traditional dress.
Then after the battery was charged we headed off to see the Korean folk museum. It was fun to see the more traditional Korean culture as depicted in many of these displays. Here you see a common classroom setting.
A Korean wedding ceremony
Some of the western influenced Korean clothing.
A fun game the kids were playing out in the common area.
We also found this fun crazy little playground area for the kids. It was like a cross between a space ship and a janitors closet with all the brooms and rakes stuck in it. So weird, but the kids thought it was a hoot!
We loved walking around the museum and finding cool things to play with. Adam found the 12 different animals that Koreans use in their calendars. Adam claims he is the dragon, and is defiantly standing by the dragon – even though his animal according to the YEARS written in front of the animals was the SNAKE. I guess the snake just wasn’t cool enough for him! ha ha.
Comment by Adam: The Korean calendar goes off the Lunar Year where the new year is typically sometime in February. So my birthday technically falls in the last month of 1976 in the lunar calendar, or the year of the DRAGON! Don’t mess with a Korean major! đ
Branson’s animal was the Rooster.
Harry’s was the Pig.
Dawsons was the Ox or Cow.
Ady’s was the Rabbit
And Mine was the Horse!
