Adam Here. My turn to write again because Sarah is sick of writing and now playing Candy Crush. đ
When we went to the ward in Keum Cheon the week before we flew to Jeju Island we had a very special experience. As a result, we were able to meet up with a former investigator and good friend, Kim Gwan Man. When I met him 15 years ago, he was a student and a single man. His Mom and siblings were church members, but he was not. His father had passed away and his mother ran a little restaurant. As the city grew, his mother fed the construction workers and was able to construct a nice new restaurant. His little sister was partially blind and needed recordings of the scriptures to read them. His little brother was the chubbiest Korean kid I’d ever met! They are a wonderful family and I enjoyed getting to know them. Brother Kim had since married and had 2 kids of his own!
As I mentioned in the previous post, we ran into Brother Kim at church, which was a complete surprise! His sister had passed away 3 years ago and caused some serious reflection in his life. He was caused to remember some of the teachings of the gospel and decided he should get baptized! I was so excited to hear that this wonderful Brother had come to embrace the gospel. His son even passed us the sacrament!
So we discussed the possibility of meeting up after our Jeju trip and having dinner. We had considered taking day trip on a bullet train to another city, Taegu, but after Jeju, we were just too worn out! We only had the one night, so it would have been a bit of a whirlwind! As such, we decided to just spend the night in Seoul. But this gave us some more time to meet with Brother Kim and his lovely wife! We went up to Keum Cheon via train (when I served there, buses were the only option). Brother Kim was so gracious. He took us to a wonderful restaurant where we feasted on a Korean BBQ dinner. It was awesome. Sarah indicated that it was the best meal she had had the whole trip! He was so kind to treat us. Afterwards, we even went for ice cream.
The restaurant had a play place and even had cameras in there with monitors in the dining room so you could keep an eye on the kids. We thought that was pretty sweet.
He was so sweet to get a little gift for each of the kids to remember Korea by. What a generous man!
What a special blessing to find out some of the seeds I’d sowed as a missionary came to fruition! It was wonderful to reconnect with this wonderful man and meet his family. Very special friends, indeed.
