Sokcho Beach

After our short little 20 minute bus ride into Sokcho city, we walked a few blocks down to the beach and discovered what Korean beaches are like.  Holy Crowded!  We thought it might be pretty dead considering it was overcast and foggy, but it seemed that just the opposite was true.  If you look closely at the below picture in the distance you can see a lot of red umbrellas.  That was the part of the beach that was open to the public. Yikes.  The other not so crowded places were actually owned by businesses and were selling/renting boats, tubes, etc.

Here’s a closer look at the public beach.  Literally wall to wall beach umbrellas and blankets!

Then other parts of the beach were blocked off by these big cement barriers.

Tubes seemed to be the big thing on Korean beaches as well and almost every family we saw had at least one.

We luckily were able to find a “not as crowded” spot right in the middle of the beach where only the first two rows of beach umbrellas were being used, But still this was way more crowded than any of us were used to.  Even on Indian beaches!

Adam too turns taking each of the boys out to jump waves with him.  Surprisingly Dawson was the one who loved jumping the waves the most!

A panorama shot from where we were sitting.

Looking down the beach.  Also notice that most of the Korean people where shirts while swimming.

One of the things we splurged on while in Korea were American snacks.  We normally never buy potato chips at home, but while traveling internationally, if we found ANYTHING familiar – it got bought.  We all just craved foods we knew!  Chips were one of our favorites!

Playing in the sand with Daddy!

I had to add this picture as well because this forest is actually right next to the beach and you walk through it to get back into the city.  Totally not something you expect right next to the beach!

And we spotted our first mini van!  Too bad it was an ambulance! That is one thing we had the hardest time finding while in Korea.  Taxi’s just never came in sizes big enough to fit our whole family.
