The third day of our time in Sokcho was “traveling day” so not a lot of pictures happened. We got up, had breakfast, packed up our bags, and went to check out of our hotel room. However, trying to get TO our bus terminal ended up being a bit of a challenge as they couldn’t find two taxi’s who could come at the same time to take us into the city. Adam ended up leaving with a few of the kids in one taxi (and most of the luggage) while I stayed and waited and HOPED another taxi could be found. We figured if we could send Adam to get bus tickets first then we might stand a chance of actually making our bus connection. Whereas if he waited around for me to find a taxi, we might end up missing our bus all together. Luckily in the end it all worked out well, and I ended up getting to the bus terminal just in the nick of time!
We ended up taking the bus 4 hours back to Seoul, and then had to once again get on several different subways in order to make it out to the airport for our flight, but all went well and we got to the airport in time for our flight! Whew!
Here we are at the bus terminal where we barricaded the kids in with luggage while Adam went to get subway tickets and I ran across the hall to get snacks. We often had to get creative like this when we were short on time. Branson and Harry were excellent bag watchers though and the snack bars were always within eye and ear shot.
All of us lined up on the plane ready for our flight to Jeju Island!
After arriving at the Jeju airport we tried finding a mini van taxi to take us all to our hotel (which we had heard we could get), but after quite a long ordeal talking with a Korean Taxi man – who basically walked off on us, we just opted to take the bus and get to our hotel that way.
Only problem was that we accidentally took the bus the WRONG DIRECTION. So within a couple of stops we had to exit the bus and go back to square one. We were all pretty tired and frustrated by this point and sick of pulling luggage all over, and so after a lot of whining and complaining, Adam finally relented to let the bus idea go, and we hailed a couple of taxi’s to our hotel! It was such a relief to finally be at our destination!
That evening we decided to just walk around the city and try to find some place for dinner and we ended up finding a Greek restaurant (at least I think thats what it was) where we ordered some fabulous food! It was on the spendy side, but all of us really enjoyed it.
Then we took a walk around the city exploring the area around our hotel. As we walked we came across this group of peaceful protestors who had a big map or Korea and who were trying to get signatures of people who wanted peace between North and South Korea. We are always up for more peace in the world, so we were all happy to sign it! 🙂 They gave each of the kids a sucker for their support! 🙂
We ended the evening by getting popcyles at a nearby market and stocking up on breakfast and snack foods for the week. Then it was back to the hotel to unload groceries and put tired little kids to bed.
