The next day on our tour back East was supposed to just be a driving day from Ontario Canada, to Cleveland Ohio, but in true Adam fashion he convinced us all to do a few spontaneous stops along the way.
We ended doing a tour at the John Johnson farm where Joseph Smith was pulled from his bed one night by a mob and then beaten and tarred and feathered, with acid and tar forced down his throat.
His friend and scribe Sidney Rigdon was also taken from his home, and pulled down the stairs suffering severe head trauma and likewise beaten within inches of his life, and tarred and feathered. All because of their beliefs and testimony of Jesus Christ.
It took all night for Emma and their friends to remove the tar, and attend to his and Sidneys wounds. Still Joseph got up to preach the next morning and baptized 3 people that day. Members of the mob were said to be in attendance.
The John Johnson farm was also where Joseph received a lot of the revelations in the Doctrine and Covenants.
We ended up doing the tour with a darling couple from Washington state who we ended up chatting with afterwards. They were traveling all over the U.S. in their RV as service missionaries, and it was so fun to hear about their travels. One of the best parts of traveling is meeting new awesome people and making friends! 🥰
We then checked into our hotel, had pizza for dinner and set up the kids for the night so Adam and I could get away for a quick date night hike.
We went to Cuyahoga National Park, where we strolled around Kendall lake and then hiked the Ledges trail. It was much cooler then we expected and we liked it so much we woke up early the next morning and took the kids to see it before we picked Branson up from the airport. But another great day back East! ❤️
