From Thursday to Saturday of our Spring Break week, we decided it would be fun to head down to one of our favorite Harrison family vacation spots. That of the Wedge. We absolutely love this place because you can go on just about any busy weekend and have no problem finding a remote and awesome camping spot. And its very similar in looks to Moab. So just beautiful! We even lucked out further when we found out that my Mom and Dad and brother Jake and his family wanted to come too! Its always more fun when Nana and Papa and our cousins come!
My Mom and Dad were able to leave just a little bit sooner than we were, and so they got the privilege of finding us all a great camping site for the weekend! And boy did they ever! We were well off the beaten path, and no where even near another camp site! And our site was surrounded by big beautiful mountains on three sides! It really was just the perfect place!
Adam and the kids immediately got to work setting up the tent when we arrived and then had fun playing badminton. We all got really excited when the birdie got hit more than three times in a row at first, but by the end of the weekend we were up to 8! Yeah!
Ady preferred playing in the sand with all the toys Nana brought! Thanks Nana!
A view of our camp site! Pretty!
Later after we got all unpacked and settled in we took a drive over to where some mines are and tried to find one that had been blown up by the military. But alas, we never found it! We sure had a good time exploring though!
And we did find this opening to a mine that has since been sealed off.
That night my Mom made us some of her yummy enchiladas for dinner and then after putting kids to bed the adults watched “Death becomes her.” Apparently the movie was really good, because I fell asleep half way through it!
My parents were so so kind too and allowed me to sleep in their trailer on a blow up mattress since I’m at that super uncomfortable stage in pregnancy and have to get up 2-3 times per night to pee. With temperatures expected to be in the 30’s every evening, sleeping in a tent and getting out to “pee in the wilderness” just didn’t sound too appealing. So they really saved my bacon on that one! And I have to give a shout out to my wonderful husband who was willing to sleep in the tent with 4 kids by himself! Luckily our kids are excellent sleepers, but still, I sure do love how well Adam treats me! He was my knight in shining armor packing up the van, getting the tent set up, and bringing me everything I needed to cook meals, and get everyone ready for bed! Sure love him!
On Friday morning we had pancakes and fruit for breakfast and then mostly just relaxed that morning and had fun playing games and talking until my brother Jake and his family arrived!
The kids were ecstatic to have some cousins to play with!
Then after a scrumptious lunch of homemade Quizno subs, we headed out for a family hike to see if we could find an arch Adam had heard about online that was supposedly just across the way from us up the canyon. Unfortunately though we never did find it. Oh well, just gives us something to explore further next time we go to the Wedge.
It was a beautiful day for a hike though! And we all had a great time being out in nature!
Nana and Papa and Stacey and some of the littles headed back to camp early, and by the time the rest of us arrived they had set up a fun little treasure hunt for all the kids! Nana sure does know how to spoil her grand kids! And load them up on sugar! 🙂
That night we had Kilbasa tinfoil dinners for our supper and then spent some time roasting marshmallows! Yum! I always love me some good time around the campfire. We ended the night with another movie (which I again fell asleep through) and then headed to bed.
In the morning we had egg mcmuffins and fruit for breakfast and then spent most of the day just lounging around, riding 4 wheelers, and playing games around camp. Adam and the kids and I then left right after dinner to head home for church the next day.
Sure was a wonderful weekend spent at the Wedge! How blessed we are to have such great families on both sides! We truly are so lucky!
