Camping up Payson Canyon

Back towards the end of summer 2014 Adam attempted to take the kids camping – only to have 3 of the 4 corners of our trailer snap and break while trying to pop it up!  Doh!
So this year, we knew if we wanted to go camping with the kids that we either had to a) buy a new trailer or b) get the old one fixed.  We debated for quite sometime, (especially after being told the cost to fix it would be $1800!) but in the end, it was cheaper to fix the trailer than buy a new one, so we went with that, and we just hope we can get another good 5+ years of camping out of it to make it worth our money!  Fingers crossed!
For some reason it took an insane amount of time to fix the trailer though, and ordering in the right part was quite the ordeal, but after 4 months of it being at the trailer shop, we finally got the call that it was ready!  Hallelujah!  We were so excited about it we decided a spontaneous camping trip was in order so the night after Adam brought it home we headed up Payson canyon!
It was actually terrible timing because I had a wedding sealing early the next morning, which meant I couldn’t spend the night (without having to get up super duper early and drive down the canyon to shower, etc.) but I still went up for the evening and had a great time going on a hike to Lizard lake, roasting smores around the campfire, and getting to know another one of Adam’s awesome Indian co-workers Rajesh!  We were also able to talk our good friend Nagendra – who we just love – into coming with us as well and it was great having their company for the evening!  Below are some pictures from our evening together.
Since we couldn’t find a campsite ANYWHERE on the road we were hoping to camp on – we made due by setting up camp on what appeared to be a place where cars could turn around.  It got a little tricky trying to find a flat spot to put the trailer and we had to make our own fire pit, but it worked out! And the view was awesome! We could see Peter Winward Lake from where we were camped.

The kids immediately set to work finding rocks for our campfire and getting wood out of the back of Adam’s truck.

Meanwhile Adam worked hard getting the trailer as level as he could by digging holes on one side of the trailer and then stacking wood on the other so that he could drive the trailer onto them and hopefully balance things out.

After we got everything set up I took a quick trip to Winward Dam to take a few pictures!
I sure love this lake!

Branson was great to help unpack the truck and set up chairs around the fire pit.

This little guy just had fun hanging out watching us set everything up.

Waiting patiently for us to start the fire and get the smores making party started!

Instead of starting the fire though, we decided to take a hike up to Lizard lake (which we’d never been to before) while we waited for our friends to arrive.  So this little guy got all bundled up!

Lucky for us though, our friends arrived just as we were about to head out and they were able to join us for our short little hike.  Rajesh was really cute with Ady and always very concerned about making sure she had a buddy at all times to help her.

We let the kids take some snacks while they hiked, and some liked to hoard them a little more than others! ha ha.  Love Harry’s face in this one.

Rajesh and Nagendra!  Great guys!
Family Pic!

The view as we hiked was gorgeous!

And we loved Lizard lake and loved that we had it totally to ourselves!

The lake was especially beautiful as the sun continued to set and the colors of the sky got darker and darker.

When we were finished playing at the lake we headed back to camp and broke out the junk food for our smores making party!  The kids LOVED roasting marshmallows and giving them to our friends to eat!

It was sure an awesome night!  I headed home about 11:30 with Jamis and then after pumping Jamis a bottle and feeding him I finally got to sleep around 12:30!  Yikes! Especially since Jamis gets up at 3:30am for his middle of the night feeding! But it was SO worth the lack of sleep to get to spend the evening in my mountains!  Oh how I love them and oh how they fill me! Another great night spent with good friends and family!
The next morning Adam had to laugh because 2 of the kids who had been sleeping on the top tier bed had somehow rolled themselves down to the bottom tiered bed.

They all woke up to a beautiul view!

Then before heading home Adam decided to take the kids on a drive up the canyon to see the red rock.

Then they went on a little hike around the area.

I think they all had a great time!
I loved getting to go and spend the morning in the temple at the sealing of one of my sweet neighbor Libby to her wonderful husband Tyrell!
