The day before the kids last day of school all the 3rd, 4th, 5th, and 6th graders at Branson and Harry’s school got to go to the Payson Pool for one last field trip. It just so happened that both Branson and Harry’s teachers needed parent help, so I was able to go and accompany Brans and Harry to the pool. We had so much fun!
I ended up walking with Brans and his class on the way to the pool, and had to laugh when most of boys in his class started calling me “Mom” instead of Mrs. Egbert. Then once at the pool we had some time to kill so Branson’s class eat lunch out under the pavilion while we waited for the rest of the school to arrive. Brans was really nice and gave me part of his lunch (I hadn’t had time to make one) and then we tossed a bouncy ball around until the pool finally opened at 11:00.
Brans and I set up a home base at the pool to leave our towels and backpacks but then had fun going around the lazy river together. Then Branson went off one of the big slides, and then we headed over to the deep pool where kids could swim laps or jump off the diving board. We found Wade over there as well as Jacey Muir and Myla Millet from our ward, and so I left Brans playing with his friends to go and have some time with Harry. I ended up finding Harry over by the lazy river and had fun hanging out with him for a bit. Then I went and layed out on my chair to try to warm up because it was COLD! Not the water temperature, but the outside temperature. In the end though I gave up and ended up just changing back into the change of clothes I had brought. I had to laugh though because I was one of the ONLY Mom’s who actually went and played in the water with the kids.
We ended up getting to stay and play at the pool until 1pm and then all the teachers blew their whistles to signal all the kids to get out. Brans and Harry immediately came and found me and I suggested that they both change into their clothes since it was so cold, but when they went to do so in the boys restroom area, they found a line a mile long! So we got creative and both boys changed behind some stacks of chairs and a towel that I rigged to hide them. I had to laugh though when both Brans and Harry ended up having to go commando, when Harry realized he’d forgotten to pack underwear, and Brans realized he’d dropped his underwear in the restroom where they’d gotten soaked. Doh! But in the end it meant they got to come home early from school so I don’t think they minded too much.
On the walk back to the school, I switched things up and went with Harry’s class which ended up being a huge blessing because they were having a pizza party in the Payson park so I got to actually have some lunch (I was starving by this point). So after helping passing out pizza slices to all the 3rd graders, I got a few slices of my own. Then Mrs. White (who teaches 4th grade) ended up needing help setting up lunch for her class (subs and chips), so I went and helped her and she gave me a plate of lunch as well as a thank you. So I was well fed that day. It sure was a great way to celebrate the end of the school year and I loved getting to do one last school hurrah with my kids! They really lucked out with awesome teachers and we are sad to see the school year end, but happy be able to start our summer vacation. Below is a sample of some of the Iris flowers the kids picked to take to their teachers to thank them for a great school year. Aren’t they lovely?
